How long to wait before I call?

I had my physical last Monday, sent to the ultrasound tech on Friday and I know I have fibroids and a very large uterus. My GP explained that if the ultrasounds looked liked she expected that I'd probably be looking at a hysterectomy. It's only Monday afternoon but I'm wondering how long I should wait or if I should just call her and set up an appointment w/her first to "talk" or just call the OB/GYN and set up an appointment. Of course the OB/GYN I have used for my abalation previously left the practice.

My impatience is this - I can't control this I know that and I want to.....I work with special needs children and I'd really like to be there close to the beginning of school - school starts in early September so, do I wait a few days for them to read the ultrasounds and call me, do I call in a few days?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

How long to wait before I call?

HI,

I would first call the ultrasound facility and ask for a copy of the results. If those are available to you then they should also have been forwarded to the Dr. Once I had those (I've gotten them within 2 days of an ultrasound) maybe you could make a morning appointment to meet with your GP and review and an afternoon appointment to see the OB/GYN.

I'm a teacher too and wanted to get my LAVH out of the way at the beginning of this summer so I'd have all summer break to heal. I became aware of the need for a LAVH on May 1st and had my LAVH on June 14th giving me until Aug 14th till I'm due back at school so I understand your urgency. I would explain this to both the GP and OB so you can maybe "hurry" along your surgery date if that is what is needed.

How long to wait before I call?

I think it depends on when the GYN can read them. My first Ultrasound, it took him over a week to look at it, the next he read within a couple of days. I have learned though to just schedule a consult the day of my ultrasounds. The tech has the results and my GYN just reads them at that time and it works for both of us! I would call for a consult, that may get things moving faster. Good luck!

How long to wait before I call?

Thanks,

Now I have another problem.....the ob/gyn's I have seen previously aren't in my "insurance plan" (of them) and I have to pick a new one..ugh! So I guess I have to wait to speak to the GP since I'm certain she'll be able to make me an appointment faster than I could. Could things get easier please?!? I'm feeling some stress over this. I really liked the other two ob\gyn's I saw and I'm pretty sure I would feel more comfortable with a woman or my old ob\gyn.

How long to wait before I call?

I meant my OBGYN only twice before he did my surgery. It was set in my mind that I wanted a woman and not a man because I'd only had 1 male MD who didn't hurt me with pap's and didn't make me feel less than I am. Upon first meeting him, I knew he was the one I wanted to do this surgery. I didn't know at the time he was Head of the OBGYN Board where my surgery was being done. Point is, I'm very stubborn and I don't trust DR.s very much, but, once I meant him, I really liked him and would trust him with any care that I need.

Your insurance is probably going to require a referral to a MD within your plan. Go meet with them. I had surgery within 3 weeks of a routine annual pap.

Keep your head up, it does all work out in the end, doesn't mean you're not going to be flustered, but it'll come together.

How long to wait before I call?

My GP called and I have an appointment on the 23rd of July to see the ob/gyn. Hopefully we'll be able to schedule it and have my bizzillion questions answered. Even though this site has been a huge help.

And as far as not being able to see the ob/gyn I wanted, I can!! I called the insurance company and they agreed that was an oversite on their website.
