painful urination

Hi ladies,

Can someone please tell me if this is normal.... I am 5 days post op- and generally have been feeling pretty good. I have been up everyday, getting showered and dressed and all that good stuff. (heck, 3 days post op i went to bath and body, it was the last day of their semi annual sale! i needed more stuff to pamper myself with)

But for the past two days I have been having pain when I urinate. When I start to go it is fine, no issues at all. But the point where my bladder is almost empty I get this sharp stabbing pain. Its horrible- not even sure I can describe the intensity of this pain. And as soon as I am done, the pain subsides.

Anyone else have a similar issue? Should I be concerned? Thank you!!!

I am experiencing the same problem. I am 11 days post op. I called my doctor and he advised me to go to the Urgent Care center for a urine test. I haven't gone. It must be pretty normal, due to the catheter.

I have it too winnieb! I expected more pain from my bowels but am nearly 3 wks post op and it's still painful when I go for a wee- although my bowels are now fine. I've been told it's due to the catheter but have had catheters before, and for a few days longer, and have not had the pain last this long. Guess it's another one of the joys of having a hysterectomy! Hope you feel better soon.

I have that too. I asked my doctor about it because I was sure it meant I had a UTI. He said no, it's normal after hyster because the bladder is likely resting on the vaginal cuff and just spasming. He said it usually lasts about a month or so. My uterus was also "cemented" to my bladder so he said the bladder is likely "traumatized".

I'm glad this subject was brought up (only for information purposes, not because you're experiencing the pain...LOL!). I had my hysterectomy on April 9th, and I'm still feeling the pain when I'm finishing urinating. I was going to call the doctor because it was really concerning me. I'll wait a bit longer, and if it's still happening, I'll call. I hope you all feel better soon.

Hi All,

I just wanted to add my 2 cents here...

I had the same exact symptomology as you when I was 2 weeks post-op. It hurt like h&** right after I voided. Like you, I thought perhaps it was the catheter..but then I just started feeling crummy.

Lo and behold I had a UTI (which didn't even feel like one)..and it took not only one antiobiotic, but another one for an additional week after. This bladder issue was the most difficult thing that I had during my recovery.

I would suggest you tell your doctor about the pain..I just do not want you to go through with what I did.

Best of Luck,
