I am having my surgery on the 23rd and am beginning to feel overwhelmed. There is soooo much to take care of beforehand. I also have to go back to work at exactly 4 weeks (I'm a teacher and school starts). Any suggestions? I have supportive family and friends, but am worried about 5 year old and the beginning of school for both of us.

I am in the exact same boat!!! I have surgery on the 18th of July and I will be headed back to school after only four weeks. I have my classroom organized and purchases school supplies for my four children. I am just trying to keep a positive attitude. I know recovery be a long process, but I am trying to relax as much as I can and remember that I can only do what I can do. Everything else will just have to wait. I am a type A personality and have always done more than I should, but this time I am going to have to back off and coast into the school year. (I think I can! I think I can!) Now if I can follow my own advice, and the advice of the wonderful women on this website and pamper the princess! I know we will both be fine!! Keep me posted and we will get through the start of school together!! H

I don't have a date YET but I so feel your anxiety, I'm right with you! I work with special needs children and we are getting higher needs children this year. I have already decided I probably will push my doctor to get a date in September in order to start the school year out with the kids and then go to the castle.

Of all years, this isn't the year to have it done! My son will be a senior this year and I don't want to miss ANY of that.

I have also bought as school supplies and he's pretty easy as far as school clothes go.

Do what you can ahead of time and I know there are other staff members who will be more than happy to assist you when you need it in the classroom.

I am a teacher too and was fortunate enough to have my surgery on June 15th which makes me 4 weeks post op. I am worried about starting school, and I'm ahead of you guys by weeks. (i had a little problem with incision which slowed me down some) However, I think kellnette hit it on the head when she said we are going to have to rely on other staff members when something comes up that we can't do, lifting, etc. I'm sure you are like me and hate to ask, but I'm also sure you have helped when others have been needy so we are going to have to let others return the favors.. . .. . I know, we would rather be helping than needing help! Right girls?

I'll be praying for a speedy recovery and uneventful (ha) first day at school. Keep in touch!

Hi there teachers! I'm so glad to hear from some of you . I teach kindergarten and I will need to be back on Aug 7 to start putting my classroom together. I just had my hyster on July 9th. I too hope I will heal and be strong enough for this date. If its of any comfort to you, it is day 6 for me post op and I am feeling great other than a swelly belly. I was supposed to have TAH BSO and ended up having it all done laparascopically. i wonder if this makes a difference in how fast we heal or at least are able to move about?

Thanks so much. It helps knowing that there are others in the same boat. I am lucky enough to team teach and the others have promised their own kids to help with classroom stuff. Look out high school kids...here I come.

Good thing we aren't all in the same school district, eh? But then again we certainly could help out one another! Good luck to everyone!

Worried, too

I'm starting to get worried about going back to school, too. I teach music in 2 elementary schools. One school I have my own classroom, but the other school I travel from class to class. I only cart a "milkcrate on wheels", you know, the kind you buy at the office supply stores. It's not heavy, I don't load it down too much. But I'm just worried about the physical strain of traveling classroom to classroom, it was hard enough last year when I was "healthy".

I feel for you ladies still waiting for surgery, you're really cutting it close.

Lin0615, we have the same surgery date! I have a 5 and 2 y/o, so my husband is taking off 1 week/working from home 1 week to try to coordinate the kids to daycare, me, etc. My son starts kindergarten 8/15, so I hope to be moving well by then. We went ahead and bought all of his school supplies, uniforms, etc. this past weekend - the thought of a Target trip 2 weeks post surgery was not my idea of a good time. I've been cooking to stock the freezer for when I'm home that will hopefully last into my return to work (freezing pans of seasoned chicken breasts and such that the DH can nuke). I've been spending a lot of time talking to the kids about the "bad ouchie" in Mommy's tummy and what that all means. My son seems to remember my c-section, so equates it all to that. This is all new to my daughter, so I'm considering wrapping myself in bubblewrap when she's around.

Bless your heart having to go back in 4 weeks. I have been amazed at how helpful my 5 y/o DS has been. You hate to have to rely on a 5 y/o, but perhaps he will be able to help you with little things to help you heal enough to go back in 4 weeks. (They are closer to the ground, so take advantage of them helping pick up things you drop! ). If your son is home with you the whole time, you might want to look into one of those movie home delivery services like NetFlix or Blockbuster. They have packages where you can get 3 movies at a time - you guys could pick out movies together online and spend a little couch time together.

I'll be thinking of you on the 23rd. My surgery is at 12:00pm. When is yours?
