6 days post op and feeling good!

surgery was on wed 7/11 and i came home from the hospital friday 7/13. i am feeling pretty good, although i do get tired quickly. surgery lasted over 4 hours and i was in recovery 4 hours. the hospital staff let my husband and son into the recovery room to try and help me wake up. when i did wake up i felt drugged and found out they were giving me morphine through an iv. i was mad because i have a very high tolerance to pain and i told them NO PAIN MEDS unless i ask. i didnt have any pain and still i am pain free. i started moving gas out of my body the next day. still no bowel movement but it will come im sure. i still have the catherer in but i am peeing on my own. not too bad for a 54 year old first time grandmother to be.

TAH, ABDOMINALL PARAVAGINAL REPAIR, A-V RECTOCELE REPAIR, BURCH, CYSTOSCOPY...and the list goes on...

Cherry, that is great. I too, had a morphine pump and didn't use it. In fact you sound a lot like me. They had so much trouble waking me up in recovery (I had no intention of waking up, I was enjoying my sleep LOL) I went home after 48 hours, it is now over two weeks I rarely nap during the day, I'm slowly-okay, not so slowly doing more and more.

The down side of feeling so good is that we have a tendency to overdo it. Because I don't feel pain or discomfort I will pick up things without thinking. Sunday my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter was here. She hurt herself and began crying so I picked her up....I wasn't being deliberately disobedient, I just didn't think about it until after.

My energy is slowly coming back, I'm sleeping very well and just feeling frustrated at my limitations. I try to listen to my body, if it starts getting sore or I start to feel tired, I go and sit down.

Here is hoping that you continue to have a great recovery.

Liz

also 6 days post-op

Hi Cherry71,
I also had surg on 7/11 and am on the internet looking for more clear cut guidelines about what movements are ok and what is not. Wish they had a physical therapist come teach me before I went home. the "no lifting heavier than a milk jug, no push/pull/bend" is sort of vague and getting in/out of bed requires muscles, flushing the toilet, etc. i would like to find some boundaries of where i have to stay movement-wise. i had LVAH and AWVS.

I also had my surgery 7/11 and was home Friday...the only pain I had was from being on the table! The back of my right leg is so sore. As soon as I woke I felt that pain...no pain any where else which surprised me! I feel pretty good....and I think today I'm going to venture out a bit....I think walking around will help stretch that sore spot on my leg.

I feel the same way. Had surgery on 7-13. I feel pretty good and wondering if I can do light housework because I'm getting bored. I didn't hear about no bending. Is it o.k. to pick up something off the floor? Can I dust? I am sleeping on the first floor but wondering if I should go upstairs. The stairs don't bother me, but maybe inside they are and I don't know it. I have a water bed and really miss it, but it is up really high, it has two rows of dressors under it. I'm thinking it wouldn't be a good idea to try and get in and out of it, but it would feel so good...

getting more info on movement

I talked to the urology nurse today about what movement is ok and she said no exercising, no lifting, but when I asked about when it is ok to put on tennis shoes and shave my legs, she said activities of daily living are ok. The instruction sheet said no strenuous activities or heavy lifting for 4-6 weeks; no golf, tennis, horseback riding, bike riding, running or strenuous activity for 3 months.

I imagine that different surgeries would mean different healing issues for each individual. The one that I need to heal well is the anterior vaginal wall suspension.

I was told at the hospital that stairs were ok but take it slow and not a lot of up and down. My bed is sort of high also but it hasnt been a problem getting in and out of.
