staples

The day after (Tues) surgery my doc came in to check on me. He never looked at the incession but said the staples could come out Thrusday or Friday this week. Asked me if I had a nurse friend or did I want to do it myself. He sent me home with a staple remover!!!

I think I'll be calling the office and going in. Has anyone taken their staples out??

Omg Spiritedhorse that doesn't sound right! My staples didn't come out for a week after surgery. Surely he should have checked your wound? I would definitely seek medical advice before doing anything yourself. Take care x

Yikes. I am sure it would be fine but I couldn't even bear to LOOK at my incision a week after surgery, let alone do a procedure on myself! lol.

I'd just say I'd feel better coming into the office and not leave them any room to say no. It takes about five minutes for them to do it and does not hurt at all. But I would agree with Rachel, part of it is in checking the wound at one week. How would you know what it is supposed to look like?

I did ask if I could take my steri strips off myself and I did it last night while watching TV. I took off one per commercial. :-) There were about twenty of those little suckers.

Oh NOOO... Call your dr back and have HIM take out the staples. I can't believe he did that. The nurses checked my incision a couple of times a day. On day four, just before I was released, the dr came in and checked my incision and removed my staples.

Shame on him!

He was kidding, right????

Take them out yourself?? I don't think so! My surgery was Wednesday, a week ago. I had my staples removed in my DR's office on Monday morning. My goodness, surely your DR is a jokester....

When they took my staples out, they put something on the area to numb it first and then the nurse removed them...Afterwards, she cleaned the area and taped it up...Please call your DR and schedule an appointment for them to do it.

Lots of 's to you!!!

He sent you home with a staple remover????? No way. I do believe that if he was serious about this I would complain to the Medical Board or something. That is just NOT right. Please tell us he was joking.

I know it sounds outrageous, but my doc offered me to take mine out when I had my anti-reflux surgery in Nov... and I had 25 staples in the 5 lap incisions... I opted to have my doc take them out.... I wanted him to look at the incisions. The staples really do come out easy w/o pain... just feels weird!

Mine were in 10 days which was fine with me. The incision coming open was a concern for me. I would never remove my own staples. How are you suppose to hold your tummy to get a good view of them and not get any skin? He needs to take them out, it doesn't hurt. My incision looks great! I won't even be able to see it in a few months, 7 1/2" with 19 staples.

Had staples after C-sections and I dont think I would want to take my own staples out. It definately is his job to check or insicion! I had dermabond for my STAH and that eventually peeled off.

I was sent home with a staple remover, but was told to bring it to the doctor's office a week later when the doctor herself removed them. I really think you should call that doctor again and have him take them out! I seriously cannot believe he said that.
