My life in my 40's
I did manage to get a really good walk in yesterday, again about 1/2 hour. I don't live far from some really beautiful beachside areas on the Gulf Coast with very interesting architectural details to the homes, and I find that when I walk around those areas it seems effortless! There are times when I slow down to appreciate the scenery, but I alloted for that and kept a good pace for the 1/2 hr.
I haven't done any situps yet...perhaps I'll start that tomorrow. I pulled out some of my exercise gear (resistance straps, free weights) to be handy to use. Now if I can just get motivated to USE THEM!! The only walking I did today was walking my 110-lb. Great Pyrenees this morning and a short stroll near the beach this evening, nothing strenuous at all. It is nice to be able to walk my dog again without it hurting my abs if he happens to pull!
Today's been a good day. I ate healthy, got a lot of stuff done I needed to do, and even enjoyed hanky-panky (all the way) with my husband! And really enjoyed it!! Woohoo! What a relief! I was starting to get concerned that it might be painful, but it wasn't at all--YAY!
Almond Joy, I liked the red stomping smiley you used when you talked about your students--really made me laugh! hahahaha. Hope you have a good day tomorrow, and KUDOS to you for exercising! God Bless, Lynn

My life in my 40's
Wow....glad I scanned through and found this thread. I thougth I was just overdong it. I guess it is all being 40, and post-op. REcovery went well. and being back to work, is tiring, but I work 10 hour shifts as a tech in and ER, as well as a volunteer paramedic/firefighter. I was remarried this past SEpt, to a wonderfully tolerant man. He still teases, yet treats me like I'm queen for the day. He drag races Harley Davidson's for a hobby, as he's a retired union carpenter. He is 12 years older then I, and even though I still feel pudgy, he treats me like a trophy wife. I have gotten down to a 14, but still cringe at the scale when it reads 201. I know it's mostly muscle, and I just need some toning, but boy would I like top be down closer to 185-190. Walking is not the answer, as I walk constitantly, training for the 60 miles 3Day in August. All the kids are out on there own(DD-27, 25 &DS-21--StepDD-34,31 &StepDS-38), and I married into grandchildren(4-ages 5-16). I'm 46, and have been through lots. ExH was alcoholic & drug addict. DS is following his footsteps, but incarcerated and rethinking his life choices, after having 4 near fatale accidents, he's lucky to be there & able to think. Life is trying, not a lot of girlfriends, more males, and they don't get it. Glad for this site, and hope to see more. I'm sorry for those of you who's DH haven't been understanding to you. I hope you find one like mine that cares for you for who you are, through it all. Over all, I don't think the 40's are all bad. Just different. Kind of like the climax before the end of a good movie. We are headed for the happily ever after ending.....coming soon enough.
Look forward to more replies - Kathy

My life in my 40's
Hi Sportster:
Great to hear you found a good guy! I can relate to your story...
I signed up for 1/2 shifts at work for the last couple of weeks, to sort-of ease in to work again. I'm glad I did, because I was sure ready for a nap when I got home!! However, our census has been low and I've gotten called off a few times in the past two weeks That's no fun, because I've been off a couple of months and now I need to work!!
There's a motorcycle thing going on this week where I live--hogs everywhere you turn! It sounds like constant thunder!
DH and I have been walking together at night. I've yet to do more than 10 crunches, and my exercise gear is back in the closet unused. I'm still eating on the healthy side, though. It's difficult to be motivated, but I know I always feel great when I'm 30 lbs. lighter than I am now!! Oh well, everybody keep your chins up!

My life in my 40's
hmmmm, I have been doing Weight Watchers for over 2 months and have lost a whoppin total of 5.6 lbs....Very discouraging. I recently started meeting an old neighbor and walking a couple of times a week. Hopefully, the weight will start coming off. Other than that, I am feeling pretty good almost a year after my TAH/BSO. Taking 2 mg. estradiol to smooth me out a little!

My life in my 40's
I have been trying but have had no luck. I hate being heavy but I have to buy clothes that make me happy and I don't feel so bad. I am a clothes person. And having to buy bigger clothes is killing me. I am very active as much as I was before surgery, but it doesn't seem to make much difference. This is what depresses me. Life just is not fun. I wish I knew how to change the way I feel without actually thinking about lipo!!!!!!

My life in my 40's
Well, I have noticed just the few pounds I lost have been making a big difference in the way my clothes are fitting. As my doctor said, just keep plugging away. Add some new and different exercises, and eventually you will see results. It is discouraging when my friend from work has already lost 20 lbs. BUT, she has been menopausal for a few more years, so maybe eventually my system will get a little more responsive. Don't give up hope and go buy some pretty new things that make you feel good!

Hahahaha! Almond Joy, I love your choice of smilies! Well, I lost about 9 pounds right after my surgery. About 4 of them came back to visit! I'm still walking though. And DH and I are about to move cross-country to WA, where I am hoping I will be more active. The heat is not as oppressive there, and there are hills and mountains to hike and climb! And remember, just because you blitz the fridge for a day or two doesn't mean it's your new (or same 'ole) lifestyle! Keep your chin up! Lol, Lynn

My life in my 40's
well..... I just got a little wake up call My husband and I went to the grocery store and we saw a co-worker of his. She is a little younger than me and way thinner. :burning: He went all gaga over her and it made me mad. AND...he didn't even introduce me. He has talked about her alot when he comes home from work. THEN...to top that off, he was reading his book and he had a Victoria Secrets model for a bookmark.

I'm sorry to hear that. My husband did that once. He did pick up on it and it was rectified quickly. He now totes me around like I'm his trophy wife. He loves me for me. I've started to eat healthy and be more active. He keeps feeding me steak & potato type meals. He says I'm fine, beautiful and need to eat. Good luck on your working out, and make sure you talk to your husband about your concerns. You'd be surprised on the response.
