Dry Eyes
I have dry eyes sometimes from allergies so I have not bothered to pay attention to whether or not I could be having eye issues related to my hyst. However, there are ladies on the site who find that hormone issues do cause them to have dry eyes. You can do a site search for "dry eyes" and read through the threads. Also talk to your doctor or optomotirist about what might be going on.
Best wishes to you! s

Dry Eyes
Intersesting, I never would have thought of dry eyes being a symptom after a hyster... I too suffer from allergies, so not sure I would notice them being any drier, since they are normally so dry. Greatly appreciate the info though.
Runplenty,
I hope you find some relief soon

dry eyes
I had my lavh in Feb. & i have dry eyes!! In Jan. I had my eyes examined for contacts. I was using the trial ones and didn't wear them at all during post op so when I was getting ready to return to work I went & ordered my contacts, can't hardly see out of them at all.
I am going to have hormone pellets inserted in a couple of weeks & I read that probably a day after insertion I should be able to tell a difference in my eyes!! Hope So. I have read where it is a sign of low estrogen!

Dry Eyes
It's true that dry eyes can be a symptom of low estrogen levels. Unfortunately, taking estrogen replacement usually doesn't fix the problem, because there is a substantial blood/eye barrier, meaning that the eye is not well-supplied with blood vessels so estrogen isn't going to make it there very efficiently.
There are lots of options for dealing with the problem. The first thing to try is just to use lubricating eye drops a few times a day and see if that helps. There are also prescription eye drops called Restasis, but those can have side effects. The best thing would be if there were eye drops that contained estrogen -- but, while there is someone who has a patent on those, they've never been produced.
I finally ended up having punctal plugs installed, and love them. Your opthalmologist can fit you with a trial pair to see if they help and if you tolerate them (almost everyone does; I don't feel mine at all). Mine are called SmartPlugs; you can google the name to find out more about how they work. They are expensive, but my insurance covered part of the cost, and it's a one-time expense, as opposed to a prescription I'd have to get refilled every month for the rest of my life.
I hope this helps!

-Linda

Dry Eyes
Thanks Everyone,
I talked with a surgeon about Lasik and he confirmed the Dry Eyes is most likely from the hysterectomy. Most woman experience this in their 50's, but with a TAH, of course I am there (hormone wise). He thinks he can do a PRK since I will have live with drops and lubricated gel for evenings foooorEVERRRRR...
If you ladies suffer as well, take the night gel-it has helped me sleep so much better!
