Cost?

I am scheduled for fibroid removal and TAH on 8/7. I have at least 5 fibroids, the largest being the size of a large personal-sized watermelon. The doctor has planned for a 2 1/2 hour surgery. I am hoping to keep the ovaries, but won't know for sure until the surgeon goes in. Just curious if anyone has any idea what this will cost? I realize there are a lot of variables, but would love a rough estimate, so to speak. I am still waiting to hear if my insurance company will cover this. I'm not anticipating any problems, but you never know.

Cost?

Hi. I had a total lap hysterectomy but all total was $31,000 (I'm lumping everything together...dr fee, hospital fee, anthest. and other testing fees) and I owe about $1200 (deductibles, co-pays) of that. The dr office and hospital were good about working out a payment plan and I'm paying $10/mth for now and will try to pay it off when I get my next income tax return.

You can call the hospital and find out how much they usually charge and ask your dr about his fee and call your insuance company and see what they normally cover and that'd give you a rough estimation of what to expect.

Good luck!!

Yikes! My husband and I were just talking about the cost this morning. As this has come up so quickly, it never occurred to me to ask about the cost. I do know our hospital is generally great about payment plans, at least they were when my son had his 2 surgeries.

It seems like a lot but this surgery was worth a millon to the zillionth 0's!! I feel so great that I cannot put it into words without writing a book.
Your could cost a lot less and you may have really good insurance that will cover more or there will be a bigger write off. I had three weeks fromt he time dr suggested hyst until I had the surgery and I didn't have time to save money. I heard rumors at work that we'd may have been losing/switching insurances and I'd already had my approval and surgery date so I decided to just go ahead and do it!

I know I am going to be happy to get this done, and on the road to feeling so much better. I have a feeling I won't realize I how bad I actually have felt until this is all done.

I just found out 4 days ago that I need to have the surgery (scheduled for 8/7), so not much time to prep for it. I will be having the surgery in Aspen (yes, THAT Aspen), so I am guessing the bills will be higher than they would be in a metro area hospital. Oh, well, like my husband said: "It is what it is and we'll deal with it".

All my costs from the surgery lumped together were $47,000.00. For your peace of mind, you may want to call your insurance and see what they cover. My co-pay for all this will have to be paid off in payments.

I don't have my date for surgery yet, my biopsy results come in on Friday but I know I'll be getting a hystie... My uterus is huge and I'm "loaded" with fibroids.

I had back surgery in 2001 and it was well over 6 figures!!! My out of pocket costs were less than 2,000 dollars. Now I'm covered through my employer and my husband's company as well, so I think this should be a piece of cake. Have short term disability too.

Gracious, what would we do without insurance?!!!

Hi,

I'm still not sure of the total cost, but my physician's fee for my LSH was $3000, and I had to pay $225 of it. I also had to pay 10% of my hospital stay which was a whopping $108 for one day. I was surprised my hospital stay was not more expensive. I had a large private room and all the popsickles I could eat

Seriously, I had excellent care from Admitting to the OR the PACU and my room. This was the best hospital/surgery experience I've ever had and this is partly due to the fact I feel so much better now that my endo filled uterus is out.

I found out

I looked mine up on the computer, just went to the Hospital's site and they had cost of rooms, cost of operating rooms and stuff like that. You will probably have to ask your DR. what they charge for doing the surgery ,but you'll have an idea.I found out it's 90.00 extra for a private room. I'm going that way, because I can be a bit of a baby, and who needs to see that!!!

at my last count a few months ago, the cost was over $20,000. i dont know how much over it went in the end. we had to pay our deductible and i remember having to pay a portion of the surgeons fees that his office didnt think would be covered.
