Seeking info
Hi everyone. I am 38 and had a hysterectomy in Nov 06, however Dr suggested I keep ovaries because of my age. Within the last 2-3 months I have experienced a lot of pelvic pain, pressure and lower back pain. Also abdominable pain is really bad...I just plain hurt...My first ultra sound revealed a small cyst on one ovary in September 06..I am scheduled to see Dr tommorrow and I really feel like both ovaries need to come out. Does these symptoms sound like they could be related to the cyst?
Just in pain and in need of info ...Thank you

These are symptoms I had, and I was told they arose from ovarian cysts. I had double-yourself-over and try not to cry out pain on the left side before my hyst. They took my ovaries, because they were concerned that the encysted ovaries might be cancerous. You can ask for a blood test, but sometimes the results of the tests are incorrect. It is absolutely essential that you see your doctor and talk about your physical pains, your family history, and other things that will enable you to map with your doctor a strategy for recovery from such pain. It's scary, isn't it? But with the help of your doctor, you'll likely conclude upon a course of action that will prove beneficial. Best wishes to you this evening.

I wish you the best in your discussion with your doctor. I should have mentioned -- so you wouldn't have so much worry (tho it's all worrisome) -- that they considered that my encysted ovaries might be cancerous because 4-6% of women who go through IVF (in vitro fertilization) procedures (as I did) end up with ovarian cancer. Many, many women's ovaries have cysts that are not in the least bit cancerous. Your doctor might suggest some medical remediation for your pain before taking your ovaries, because of your age. S/he ought also to ask you to do some bloodwork, in my view (the CA-125 test, for instance) to rule out other possibilities and to check for albumen levels. Best wishes to you on your journey to wellness.
