Question for those who had robotics LAVH

How did you decide on keeping your cervix? I am planning on robotics LAVH unless something changes after my gyn appt tomorrow.... she feels that this is the best route for me. But it seems the cervix is just another organ to worry about "going bad" down the road and yet, I've never had an abnormal pap..... so I'm undecided. Did your doc just make the decision for you based on your medical situation or did you have a choice? Another side of me says I should keep all organs that aren't sick AND perhaps loosing the cervix will impact sexual intercourse in a negative way.... which would be sad since DH & I have so much fun What are your thoughts?? Also how/why did you chose robotics over plain LAVH? (still considering both options) THANKS!

Question for those who had robotics LAVH

I had the LAVH, but not robotically. My cervix was taken as the endo there was causing abnormal paps. It was medically necessary for me to have my cervix removed along with the rest of my endo covered uterus. Both my doctor and I agreed on the hyst type and the organs to be removed and retained -- complete uterus and appendix out, kept ovaries.

I cannot physically or sexually tell that my cervix is missing. Nothing has changed from pre hyst to post hyst! Well, nothing except my paps are now normal!

The cervix is actually the bottom portion of the uterus and is not a seperate organ.

Best wishes to you as you and your medical team decide what is best for you!

Re: Question for those who had robotics LAVH

I had a DVH robotic. My doctor just asked me and let me decide. I am 45 years old and have had nothing but problems with anything in the region of the ovaries and uterus. It had taken so long for me to find the right time financially and be at a job that was cool with me taking off work to recover, I told him to take everything. I've had no problems since then. As far as sex, I can't say. I still have my drive, but vaginal intercourse hasn't happened yet. So I don't have any imput there.

Considering the vast amount of blood loss before I had the surgery. The severe cramps, bleeding so bad sometimes I couldn't leave the house (going through 23 pads in 24 hours), and almost constant periods, my life is extraordinarily better after surgery.

I am obese and have had a little incision soreness right after the surgery. When I realized if I kept hitting the little morphine pump, I couldn't go home or stay awake, so I quit hitting it and realized I didn't really have pain. Shortly there after I went home and took 1 pain pill so I'd sleep well without worrying that I'd accidentally hurt myself someway or the other. I did that the first 2 nights home and after that I've not needed anything.

I took it easy, walked a bit, as recommended, like from my house, down the drive and over 2 houses to my mom's and back up the drive and back. I rested when I was tired (still have to), moved when I could and followed doctors orders and I've been very pleased. My mother & mother-in-law and other ladies who had the old fashion, cut them all down the gut type seem jealous that mine was so easy to recover from. I'm very grateful for it.

Hope this helps.
