Problems 6 months after TVH
Hi!
I'm not sure where to start here. I had a TVH 6 months ago. The surgery went well. About two weeks after the surgery, I came down with an infection and my doctor said I also had an irritated stitch. I was put on anti biotics and that caused me to end up with a yeast infection. I was then given pills to get rid of that since it was too soon after surgery to use creams. That all cleared up and I was fine for three weeks. I came down with another yeast infection. My doctor prescribed a cream for me to get rid of the infection and everything was fine. I was feeling great with no pain since April up until the beginning of July. It felt like menstrual cramps and like I was going to start my period. The pain continued and I went to my gyn thinking it was related to the surgery. They did a urine test and said they thought I had a bladder infection. The antibiotics weren't working so I went to my regular doctor. They did another urine test and no signs of an infection. They did a pelvic and found no signs of a prolapsed bladder or scar tissue in the vagina. I was given some more antibiotics for a UTI and that helped with the frequency of having to urinate etc. I continued to still have the cramps. My gyn suggested that I have the procedure where they inject medication into the bladder to see if the bladder is oversensitive. I had that done a week ago. My doctor said that if that worked then he would prescribe some meds. for the oversensitive bladder. The cramps are gone but I have noticed that I have some pressure and aches in my pelvic, tailbone area. The doctors have ruled out any problems with my bowels. My gyn said that if I continued to have the cramps then I have scar tissue from the surgery. I also have noticed that the day after my husband and I have sex, I really get the aches and the pressure feeling. I am frustrated and my doctor says that they can't find scar tissue on any tests, the only way to find out is to have surgery. That is the last thing I want to do. I have had two D&C's and the hysterectomy in the past year. Enough is enough!!!! LOL
Has anyone had any similair problems like this or any advice etc? I would love to talk to anyone about this. I am so frustrated and confused. I just am not sure what to do or say!!! Thanks for reading all this and listening to my problems!!

Problems 6 months after TVH
bunnierabit--
I'm sorry you are having this pain and this problem. I have had something very similar to this. It sounded so familiar when I was reading your post. I had cramps right after having intercourse and mine were even followed by waves of nausea. It was not fun. It even happened for me after pelvic exams. I described it to my DR and a lightbulb went off in his head. He said it sounded very much like adhesions--internal scar tissue--between my fallopian tubes and my vagina. He said there are no tests that can be done to show adhesions. The only thing to do is the same procedure that actually removes them which is a laparoscopy. That, as you probably know, is a surgical procedure where they go in via your belly button to see what's there. The surgeon also can use the laparoscopic tools to cut down the adhesions and remove many things (mine removed my fallopian tubes since they weren't doing anything and were causing so many problems).
I just had this surgery done 8 weeks ago. I haven't had the nausea since. I have still had some pain but I am giving myself some time to see if 3 months or so will make sure everything has healed up completely.
Unfortunately, the only way to tell if you have adhesions is to actually see them either via a laparascope or some other surgical method. Also, unfortunately, the method of removing them can cause them to reform so it's not a thing to take lightly. My DR wrapped my ovaries in a material called Interceed that lasts about 30 days to try and keep adhesions from forming on them again during the immediate post-op period. I am keeping my fingers crossed in the hopes that it worked.
Many women find relief from laparascopic adhesiolysis and think it's worth having it done even if they have to have it repeated in the future. Many women determine to live with whatever pain they have because they do not like the idea of repetitive surgeries and try to find other ways to cope with the pain--physical therapy, pain management, etc. You need to determine WITH your DR, whatever diagnosis you have--we really don't know for sure--and then whatever you want to do about it.
Sending MANY, MANY S......

Problems 6 months after TVH
Thanks for replying to my post!! I sure hope you find relief from the pain and nausea from this last surgery you had! I don't have the nausea but sometimes I get to where I just don't feel good. I got that way when I got the cramps. I just felt yucky. The cramps would come and go.
I do know what a laparoscopy is. I actually had one in December when I had my last D&C. Unfortunately, it kind of sounds like this may be scar tissue. It is kind of weird because I had no syptoms and it just showed up all of a sudden. Or so it seemed. My GYN said that can happen with scar tissue. I have never had any kind of scar tissue internally before. So this was new to me. It really stinks that they can't see the scar tissue unless I have the surgery. That will make the fourth one since Aug. of '06. I know I am not alone in anyway because I lot of women seem to have reoccuring surgeries.
I also have noticed that if I sit for too long, I can feel it pulling down in the area of where I had the cramps. After intercourse, I don't have cramps, everything is fine...no pain. But the next day is miserable. This don't always happen. I know this is definately not normal!!! LOL I just have a bloated, strange feeling down there. It is kind of hard to explain!!
I have not had the cramps since I had the medication put in my bladder (a week ago today) to make my bladder less sensitive. My doctor did suggest that if this does turn out to be scar tissue that that could be why I was having the cramps. The scar tissue is aggrevating my bladder. I have another appointment with my GYN on Aug. 9.
I am really relieved that there is someone else out there ( and probably more women out there) who has gone through this similair thing too. I sure hope you recovery goes well and that everything heals good with no problems!

Problems 6 months after TVH
Has your DR mentioned at all the possibility of having IC (interstitial cystitis)? My DR gave me a test for that before doing the lap on me just in case that might be it. IC can cause a lot of the same problems. If your bladder is what is the problem, it can give you pain with intercourse and a lot of the same symptoms. That may be why you haven't had any problems since having the bladder treatment? There are two really good websites that describe that condition that can help quite a bit if you need info-- ichelp.org and ic-network.com.
Is it that your DR thinks both things may contributing to your pain? It's sure hard to tell sometimes. I have felt at times like I was at the DR's office only slightly less than the employees. It can get old, can't it? I too am TIRED of surgery and all of that. Having had 3 in a 9 month period and 6 in a two year period, I am NOT eager to do it again.
I do hope you can ask your DR and find out everything you need to know.
Many extra +++ thoughts & good vibes to you... ....

Problems 6 months after TVH
Hi!
My doctor did mention the cystitis. That is why he injected the medication in my bladder last week. He was testing it to see if that was the problem. Not exactly sure what that procedure is called. So far, so good. That took care of the cramps...so far!!! But I feel a lot of pressure and a full type of feeling down there. My bladder is working normally.
My doctor wanted to try that first before he even considered surgery. He said if that didn't work then it was definately scar tissue. Then at that point, I need to decide....do I want to have surgery again or do I want to live with it??? LOL If the cramps continue to be gone, then he said he would prescribe some medication for me to take to help my bladder out. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Maybe the pills are a little more effective than the injection. Maybe that will take care of the full, pressure feeling??? I am trying to grasp at anything and just hope that will be the case!!! LOL
It gets pretty frustrating to have to go to the doctor all the time. I asked my GYN if he had a room in the back of the office that I could rent since I am there all the time!!! LOL So, yes...I know what you feel like there!!!! I am very tired of surgery. I have had three in the past year. Two D & C's, Larascopy, and the hysterectomy. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is the bladder thing!!
I am going to check out those web pages you listed! Thanks!
