Femring users?? ...Is it a good thing?

Femring users....

I would love to hear about your experiences with the femring...

Currently I'm using the Vivelle patch 0.125mg (two patches) every three days. I like it but...It seems like I'm having two good days and then two bad days. I am so sensitive to fluctuations in my estrogen level. I become depressed, fatigued, anxious and have trouble sleeping whether my level is rising or falling. It's like I am two different people and it's exhausting for me and my family!

Questions for you all...

Do you like the femring better?
Do you need a lower dose because it is a steadier dose?
Does it help with mood fluctuations? Help sleep better than the patch?
Any negative vaginal issues? Can you tell it's there? Can your DH/boyfriend tell it's there?
Does it really last three months?
Three months seems like an awfully long time to have that thing in there!

Thanks soooo much for sharing your thoughts and experiences.

Hi,

I don't use Femring, but you can do a Search and see what others are using it and what they have to say.

Hey, there. I tried the Femring for several weeks and loved the steady dose of estrogen - it seemed to have a stronger effect on me than the highest vivelle dot, which was a good thing. It was also great for vaginal tissue health. Sadly - it just wouldn't stay in me well. My cervix went with everything else and I think I needed it to "anchor" the Femring. I used a diaphragm for b/c for many years so I am familiar with how this works - (and I didn't feel the femring anymore than I did the diaphragm - nor did my boyfriend.) So I had to abandon it. I was, truthfully, a little concerned about exposure to my boyfriend..... I had one hilarious phone call to my doctor's office where I inquired of the nurse the potential effects to my partner during oral sex. She was a little less than helpful - her comment was "well, it IS inside you, it shouldn't be a problem...." I do know (don't know from where, maybe prescribing literature) that you can take it out during sexual activity, and rinse and reinsert after. To my thinking, that might "use it up" a little quicker. When I was using it, I read some relevant posts and it does appear that, same as patches, for some women it does not last the full three months.

That my two cents. Your mileage may vary!

Thanks Katrina....

Thanks for your two cents!

My NP said she has a few clients on the femring and they love it. I have my cervix so maybe I would do okay with it.

It is interesting that you felt the ring was "stronger" than the same dose patch. That tells me that maybe the absorption rate is more efficient with the ring.
I would think that because the patch is applied in different locations each time... the absorption rate has to vary quite a lot. And the ring stays in the same location so the absorption rate is steadier. ???

I wonder too...if the vaginal area can become saturated with estrogen and cause the absorption to lessen over time. ?? ....Maybe I'm just thinking too much!
I'm just glad there is another alternative out there if the patch doesn't work out....

Thanks again for sharing....
