Ovarian failure?

I had a LASH hyst. on July 17th. My ovaries and cervix were left in place. I have read that the ovaries can go to sleep after abdominal surgery, and some stop working alltogether. I was wondering how soon would you know if your ovaries aren't working right? I'm having crazy hormonal symptoms (irritable, crying for no reason, always munching, insomnia, a hot flash, vaginal dryness). What's your take on this?

Yes, it is true that, for some ladies, the ovaries can fall asleep/go into shock due to the trauma of surgery. The symptoms you describe certainly sound as if your ovaries possibly aren't working correctly at the moment.

Some ladies have no problems at all; others find their ovaries start working again after a few weeks and then there are some, like me, whose ovaries don't kick back in again for a couple of months. Mine are fine now.

You may like to have a quick read through this HS article <link> Ovaries - Shutdown which will explain in more detail.

It might also be worth having a word with your doctor as he may be able to prescribe some temporary HRT to help relieve the symptoms.

I hope things settle down very soon. Take care!

Ovarian failure?

My ovaries did shut down. I finally went to the doctor after 4 months and told him that I needed help. It is very hard. He did run blood test and found out that my ovaries are not producing at all. I am now on a patch and Wellbrutin. But I would just call the doctor and talk to them.
