Re: Calling all Kiwis
Hi fellow Kiwis
I am from the Bay of Islands and just starting my 3rd week after TAH. Today was my first outing - friend took me out for coffee and I bought a couple of dresses to perk me up with a little retail therapy. I will rest this afternoon. I had multiple fibroids, 18 week uterus and heavy irregular bleeding which I was trying to cope with whilst camping in Outback Australia for 6 mths. Fortunately my gyn put me on progesterone meds to regulate cycles so that I could be at an ensuite camping site during the bad days. Anyway, glad to see you ladies on here and wish you all lots of hugs and a great recovery.

Re: Calling all Kiwis
Hi There.
I'm from Nelson. I am 15 days post total hysterectomy. The surgeon took everything as I had what they call "borderline serrous tumour" of my left ovary. When they did the 2nd op to do the total hyster they found my right ovary had also gone borderline. I had been having irregular periods and really heavy bleeding for a year or so leading up to it but the thing that got the ball rolling was when I mentioned to my GP that I had this left lower ovary pain and then he suggested I went for an ultrasound which I did and it all started from there. My ovary showed i the scan as having a "tissue component" so therefore it needs following up. I have to say I was impressed with how well the medical system worked. I did pay for my ultrasound and first Gyn visit myself but apart from that its been full steam ahead at the hospital. I had to get the hysterectomy done in Chch tho as thats where they do these op's that have potential for anything else. I got my results yesterday tho to say its ALL CLEAR!! YAY.... I love those words.

Re: Calling all Kiwis
((Ladies))
It’s wonderful to see new friendships forming here in the Neighborhood forums!
Just a friendly reminder for those already familiar with the forums, and to explain for the benefit of any new members, all our forums have a unique purpose with "Neighborhoods" intended for topics unrelated to surgery. (Please check out the forum descriptor). We ask that hysterectomy discussions be conducted in the appropriate areas to avoid missing out on the awesome support available elsewhere on the site in, for example, the <links> Pre-Op and Post-Op forums!
We moved a post-op question (and subsequent replies) to the Post-Op Support forum where all ((sisters)) will have the opportunity to respond. You can find the new thread by clicking here: http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sho...d.php?t=463248.
So as not to duplicate the intended purpose of our forums, we’ll look forward to seeing you over on the hysterectomy boards for your support needs and questions, but hope you'll still continue to enjoy local interests and friendships here!
With best wishes and many thanks!

Re: Calling all Kiwis
Hello from Quake City - Christchurch!
I have been posting on the main forums since August - had my op. at the end of Aug.
Won't post any health-related matters, as has been spelled out above (thanks for the heads-up, Pooodle! ). I do too much health-related posting already! . What an addicitve place!
Just wanted to say hello to my "fellow Kiwis" and say - this has been the most unreal year of my life!! Mainly because Chch has been bashed and battered beyond recognition in parts (just did a bus tour of the Red Zone in the weekend and I really didn't know where I was half the time)
But also - to find I needed a hysterectomy came out of nowhere, too! It all went fine, but I have lost ALL my bits
I am thankful, however, for many things. My house is better than most in terms of damage - just cosmetic stuff.
Hope you are all recovering well and enjoying the warm weather!

Re: Calling all Kiwis
Hi Acey.
Lovely to read your post. I am loving this forum! Just what we need. I am still finding my way round it and am feeling very supported by it.
Sorry to hear you lost "all your bits" I lost all mine too. Kind of a weird journey aye. I take it you would have been at Chch Womans?
What a weird year as you say. In amongst earthquakes and hysterectomies you must wonder where that all come from. Left field is a strange place
I am recovering well altho a lot of the problem is not knowing what to expect so will look at some of the post op forums later.
Great to hear from you.
Roll on Summer! x

Re: Calling all Kiwis
Hi KelCrazy1. (Love the name btw)
Maybe you should get your belly wound checked if it's oozing?? And no way.. its not tmi I like that people are able to share just how it is! Thats how the rest of us who are just starting the healing process can learn what to maybe expect. I am 3 weeks today and will be looking at the post op forum later.
I'm loving this site and am looking forward to getting used to it so I can navigate my way round it better.
Cheers and hope all is well. x

Re: Calling all Kiwis
Hi, Blossom NZ!
Yep, got my hysto done at Chch Womens - the surgeon was <Oops! Surgeon's name removed per website guidelines>. I gather you went there too.
I was mightily impressed with the medical care I've received, from start to finish!
All I paid for was an ultrasound (in June) that discovered what SEEMED to be a uterine tumour. I got fairly fast-tracked from there. Met the surgeon who is a gyne/oncologist and he sent me for a CT scan, thinking it could be cancer and to see if it had spread. No, all clear - but some nervous moments!
I didn't have to pay for that CT scan, any appointments, or the op. - well, that is why we pay taxes, eh!
It turned out I just had an ovarian cyst lurking behind the uterus which surprised the surgeon. Even a CT scan can be ambiguous! Still he took my cervix and ovaries, because I'm 62 and I guess I don't need them since I went thru the menopause ages ago. The cyst turned out to be benign.
I had 5 days in hospital. I have a 17 cm vertical incision, but unlike you, KelCrazy1, have had no oozing apart from the day or two after surgery! It seems strange that it should still ooze, though on the main post-op. forum several have that problem. Hope you can get that sorted! I've had no bleeding either. apart from the day after surgery, and I'm at 3 months now!
A nurse at Chch Womens said to me that the surgeon who did my surgery "sews you up really well!"
Did you guys have staples or stitches? I had dissolving stitches.
Hope you all recover soon!

Re: Calling all Kiwis
(((Ladies))), just another friendly reminder that here in the Neighborhood forum you're welcome to visit about topics which aren't related to your surgeries and recoveries. There are specific message boards for those discussions. If you are post-op, please use the Post-Op Hysterectomy Support message board for all of your hysterectomy questions, concerns and support needs.
We'll look for you all to join in the discussions on the support boards of this site and hope you'll enjoy visiting here in the Neighborhood forum about topics unrelated to surgery, recovery, hormones, etc.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation in keeping the site organized for the best support!
