Dumb Question, I know.

Hey y'all, it's been awhile since I've last posted.

Awhile back I made a post about a new birthcontrol that the doctor started me on. Mircette.

It's given me some get up and go, and I'm so thankful for that. Not even a year ago, you could barely get me out of the bed because I felt so bad and was so tired.

But here is a dumb question.
I've been on Mircette since Aprilish. I had a period the first month I was on it, and then I spotted one time. Now, I'm going on three months without having a period.

You are probably thinking to yourself "Well Gee, get your butt to the doctor." But I don't want to sike myself out since I've actually been feeling great. I'm a bit concerned since I only have one ovary left and I keep thinking in the back of my mind "Maybe this ovary is about to stop working."

So, my question is, is it normal to not have periods with Mircette? No, I'm not pregnant considering I haven't had sex and I'm not stressed out. I know you all aren't doctors, but I would just like a few opinions before I go and aggrivate my doctor about it.

Thanks ladies!

Dumb Question, I know.

Well, I found one site that stated you should see your doctor if you miss two menstural cycles in a row. So I would suggest you make an appointment with your doctor right away!

Dumb Question, I know.

Not a dumb question at all!

I was on Mircette for about 4 years, for pre-menopausal mood swings and other symptoms, and it basically stopped my periods. (It also stopped all the negative symptoms for which I was taking it,so I stayed on it.) I had some very minor spotting maybe twice a year, but not what you'd really call a period. It was actually nice not to have to wear black skirts to work all the time, you know, just in case ...

I always mentioned the lack of periods to my GYN, whom I saw twice yearly, and she was never concerned about it. I certainly didn't mind not having a period for all those years, but I did go off the Mircette in 2006 because I wanted to see if I was in menopause yet. I wasn't, as it turned out, and my periods became very erratic. I was back to wearing black almost every day ...

But, no matter what my experience was, I do agree you should talk to your doctor about it. Like I said, my doctor was not concerned about it, and I asked her frequently. Every birth control pill is chemically different from all the others, and every woman's biochemistry will react differently to different drugs. So, it may be OK for you, like my doctor said it was for me, or it may not be. Only your doctor can tell you.

But, in the end, it boils down to the personal choices you make about your life, and weighing the risks versus the benefits. I personally choose to use Rx drugs (including HRT now and Mircette then) to make my life better. OK, I'm off my soapbox now ...
