Post ablation with fibroids, what is next?

Hi Ladies,
I seen so many threads with issues similar to mine and glad I'm not the only one going through this.
Brief History: I am 43 years old. 2 C-sections , Tubal in 1991, Then I had an endometrial ablation Dec. 2006, Heavy periods. Since April the pain on my right side is awful. Each month I hope it gets better, but I am sitting here in pain again. My GYN who I have had for 20 years wants to be conservative and do Laproscopy to see what is causing me all this pain. I on the other hand am so sick of this I just want to have a Hysterectomy. Then when the pain subsides, I think well, I can go another month.
I joined HysterSisters today to get as much information as I can.

I forgot to add that I had a Vaginal Ultrasound that showed 2 Fibroids the size of golfballs on my right side.

Post ablation with fibroids, what is next?

Hi RT66Cruiser

I also recently joined this group because like you I was trying to get as much information as I could. My doctor had recommended a hysterectomy and I was feeling a little overwhelmed. To be honest this site is amazing. The other hyster sisters have been so helpful and supportive and they make you feel like you're not going through these problems alone. It's great how it connects women from all over that have so much in common.

I understand what you mean about being tired of dealing with the pain each month but perhaps letting your GYN have a look to find out what is causing it isn't such a bad idea. I know it's a difficult time but the way I look at it is that if you exhaust all other options first, at least you'll know you've tried everything and a hysterectomy is always still a possibility.

I'm assuming you only have pain when you are menstruating since you mentioned that when the pain subsides you feel like you can get through another month? That is the situation I'm in and some months are worse than others. In my case, I know that it is the accumulation of blood under the scar tissue in my uterus from the ablation that is causing the pain and I also have large fibroids which don't help. I've pretty much tried everything that was recommended with no luck so I guess it's just a matter of waiting to see what the future has in store for me. Like you, when the pain subsides I think I can get through another month without having major surgery.

Anyway, I know it's a personal decision and trust me, I know it's not an easy one to make. I'm still not sure what I'm doing. Just remember, it's your body and only you can decide what is right for you. Wishing you all the best

Post ablation with fibroids, what is next?

Thanks Purple Lilac for all your kind and helpful words! I know that my dear dr. wants to see what is going on in there first. I called him a few weeks ago and asked if while he was in there, and he felt that I did indeed need a Hysterectomy, could he do the procedure right then. He said unfortunately he could not. The thought of having 2 procedures if needed terrifies me!

Its so nice to feel like I'm not alone with all of this! I told my DH today that other woman are going through the same thing after their ablation. I feel like after the ablation I traded in Heavy periods for Pain. I never had cramping Pre-ablation, just awful heavy periods that would keep me house bound for a few days. My pain is only on my right side and every other month. So when I'm ovulating on my right side, I get pain, then pain for over a week during my cycle. Now next month I will be ok, with only mild cramping. So every other month is when I'm having troubles.

LOL thats what I keep doing.....Ok I can get through another month! I guess we forget about the pain, or at least pretend to. WE are Women....Hear Us ROAR!!! LOL then I add a small little meowwwww.

Maybe we both can figure out what will be good for us.
Thanks again honey!

Post ablation with fibroids, what is next?

Hi Again RTCruiser

You're so welcome. I just hope I can help other women the way other hyster sisters have helped me. You're definitely not alone with all of this. I think my DH is glad I found this discussion group since as understanding as he is, there's only so much talk about a woman's uterus that he can take

Like you, I feel like I traded in the heavy periods for the pain after the ablation. And to make matters worse, the heavy bleeding has started to return with the pain. Oh joy! You mentioned that you have pain only on your right side and only every other month. Just a thought but perhaps your pain has something to do with your ovary and not your uterus? I also have pain when I ovulate which the dr told me was from the cysts on my ovaries. I've had it for as far back as I can remember so it has nothing to do with the ablation. I know the thought of having 2 procedures can be scary but getting a hysterectomy is just so final and major that finding out if you truly need one first might not be such a bad idea.

Anyway RTCruiser I like your attitude! LOL about WE are Women....Hear Us ROAR!!! Stay positive, that will get you through anything! I wish you all the best with whatever decision you make.

Post ablation with fibroids, what is next?

Hi Purple Lilac!!
Ohhhh bad morning with pain and now I started bleeding again???? Ughhhh My period started last Monday. I had never had ovulation pain or cramping pain before my ablation. My poor husband too, always hearing me talk about my female troubles.
He hates to see me like this, and just wants me better. He feels so helpless.

My Ultrasound I had in April showed no cyst on Ovaries, just 2 fibroids. I have had a CT scan too. I am taking motrin 800 all week for the pain. I am going to call my Dr. in the morning.

Ahhhhh the joys of being a woman!

Post ablation with fibroids, what is next?

RT66Cruiser so sorry to hear you're in pain I truly hope you're able to see your Dr. soon and get this all sorted out. As great as this discussion group is, it can't replace the advice of a professional.

My DH hates to see me go through all this pain as well. He told me that he would support whatever decision I make but I think deep down he doesn't understand why I don't just have a hysterectomy and put an end to all of this. Sometimes I think the same thing! Guess this isn't easy on our husbands either. (good thing our marriage vows included in sickness as well as in health!! )

Take care of yourself and I hope the motrin is helping.

Thinking of you

RTcruser - just my but I'd encourage you to go and see your dr, even if the pain has subsided for the month. I was like you in the beginning, and kept on thinking it would be ok, until I was in pain ALL the time and had to live off of pain killers just to make it through the days. Go and at least tell him what is going on...mabye he can offer a solution before it gets too bad. Again, just IMHO.

Post ablation with fibroids, what is next?

Hi Teacher30,
I have been threatened by my dear mother and husband, that I WILL call my Dr. first thing on Wed. morning! This has all gone on way tooooo LONG. And my pain is getting worse. I am not a pill taker and I seem to be living on 800 motrins.
Thanks so much for your 1cent of info! LOL

My dr. is great! I have been going to him for 20 years. He is never to busy to talk and answer all and any questions that i have. Since Nov. 2006 I have been back to him so many many times. My last visit was in June, then we talked in July again.

I DO want to have a hysterectomy, because this is no way to live month after month. I have been putting it off for way too long. I just hope he can schedule it ASAP! So I don't have along time to be nervous and scared.

Back in Dec. 2006 I was thinking about a hyster. but my Dr. wanted to try the endometrial ablation first. Well 8 months later......still having troubles that seem to be getting worse instead of better. I know in my heart I am READY!!!! I don't want to live like this.
