How to Plan for LSH

I know there is general hysterectomy planning info on this website but I would like to ask how to plan for an LSH.
They really are a lot different.

What should I wear home?

What kind of clothing for in the hospital?

What to have around the house for comfort later
for the gas pains etc?

Should I do an enema before surgery?

I would like to know all that stuff.

Bless you.

How to Plan for LSH

Hi Lisalj3,

I had LSH almost a year ago....here are my answers to your questions:

I wore the same thing to and from the hospital. A loose fitting shirt and sweat pants, bra and underwear (I did not need larger underwear, some people report swelling and do), socks and slip on shoes.

As far as clothing in the hospital....nothing. I wore the hospital gown and non-slip socks. I was there for one night.

As far as items to have around the house...you will want a stool softener and perhaps Milk of Magnesia.

I did not do an enema or bowel prep...ask your Dr. Each person is different and each Dr/hospital will have different routines.

How to Plan for LSH

i wore a victorias secret sweat suit there and home. i didnt need anything in a larger size.
i brought my own pajamas and had a nurse help me put them on the night of my surgery. i stayed in the hospital 48 hours. i just hate hospital gowns and have always brought my own..its just more comfortable for me.

definitely have milk of magnesia at home. ask your dr about a bowel prep. some require and some dont. i think the magnesium citrate is easier than an enema but others feel the opposite. walk as much as you can after..that really helps with the gas.

this is an amazing surgery...i hope youre as happy with yours as i am with mine. i feel fantastic. good luck

How to Plan for LSH

I am almost 3 weeks post LSH. I wore a loose fitting summer shift to and from the hospital. I had gas X on hand but really never needed it. I did get Mira lax and was very glad I had it on hand...it helps so much with constipation. The first week I wore loose fitting shirts and shorts.
I haven't heard of having an enema before the surgery.
My pain level was very minimal, and that suprised me. at almost 3 weeks post, I don't even feel as though I had any procecure done...and best of all I no longer have severe pelvic pain. You'll do great, just plan on taking it easy for a few weeks.

I have to do a bowel prep the day before and liquid diet. I'm also having LSH. So I would definitely check with your doctor. They are all different.

I was actually asking about the bowel prep for my own comfort seeing as though so many ladies had trouble with the "big potty". :-)

The doc actually hasn't mentioned this.

Once again, I sure do appreciate each of you dear sisters who has reached out to me and to the group here with information and comfort.

God bless Hystersisters!
