Im having terrible anxiety and may be awhile before I get my hormones straight and Im very hesitant to start on Xanax or valium since I will prob be on these long term?

thanks!

Hi Gursie....

I see that you had your hysterectomy just a few days before I did last September. Sorry to hear you are having such a rough time with anxiety. I, too, suffered with it. I was on Effexor before I had to have surgery, but I hated the side effects. After surgery I was able to successfully wean myself off of it and am still off of it. About three months after surgery, I started having anxiety again. So I tried bio-identical hormone creams. Before that I had also tried Estropipate (estrogen pill) but it upset my tummy. I also tried the Estraderm patch, but it wouldn't stay on. After trying the bio-identical creams for a few months with little relief of the anxiety, I decided to go off HRT completely the middle of June. I take a multi vitamin and calcium. That's it. I've heard that Vitamin B-Complex is good for anxiety and I have taken it before, too. But the only thing that has helped me tremendously is to go off HRT and just eat healthier, get lots of exercise and rest. I have more energy so I am able to get more exercise, I am able to eat better because my tummy issues (IBS-D) have eased, and I am much happier because I feel better. Even my libido came back full force!! I do have grumpy days, but for the most part I am feeling great. I had a general physical the other day with my regular doctor and he was happy with how I am doing. I see my GYN/surgeon in October. Going off HRT completely isn't for everyone.....but it has worked so far for me.

I, too, suffer from anxiety. I cannot take St. Johns because I am on Thyroid meds( which is contraindicated for that natural remedy). I am so hesitant about telling my doc because I feel as if I am giving in to it. Silly, I know, but still...

Even though my bioest cream doesnt help me much, I tried stopping it for almost 2 days and I was so dry I couldnt breathe or swallow and my skin was all tight and shrunken up. It doesnt help that I have Sjogrens syndrome, and that is another reason I prob need the estrogen. Ive played around with some of the patches and Premarin and they all made all my symptoms worse. Im going to see another one of my docs who is an MD, but practices natural stuff so I will see what he has to say. I cant believe how this hit me so hard and so fast...overnight..I def need to do something about the anxiety now though...not sure what to try

Hi Gursie!

I have asthma and a hypoactive thyroid, so like catlover, I can't take St. John's Wort. I had a TAH/BSO so menopause has jacked my anxiety. I try taking walks, relaxation breathing, quiet music, etc. Most of the time that works, but when it doesn't I have Xanax. It's just enough to take my shoulders out of my ears and get me back into my skin. I don't need it every day. Most of the time the other techniques work. But when I do need it, it sure is wonderful. Don't deny yourself the comfort - Life's too short! I hope you find a solution that works for you.

gursie, B complex has always worked for me in terms of anxiety, as has making sure I get adequate sleep on a regular basis. Try avoiding stressful situations/people too--I know, I know, easier said than done. :-D
Good luck to you.

My labs indicated that my B6 was very high, but im only taking around 45 mg per day...but, maybe that is causing some of my anxiety? who knows, stopping them until I have some more labs next week? thanks for the info, as I know B vitamins are essential for energy-well being
