New & Undecided...

Hello, I have read many of your posts and was wondering if anyone could give me advice or just some input! I was diagnosed with carcinoma in situ, stage O, cervical, which is early and supposed to be very treatable. Onc/gyn recommended a hysterectomy with cervix, uterus, AND ovaries removed based on my family history of breast and ovarian cancer. I am only 35 and am really afraid of surgical menopause but am more afraid of the "beast". I won't take HRT because of the breast cancer. Can anyone help? I will be going for a 5th opinion soon! Thanks so much!

New & Undecided...

Hi MP,

I haven't had my surgery yet, but my doc is planning on removing all my female organs below the waist also.

I'm not sure where I am in regards to menopause.. maybe perimenopause, but haven't had any signs.

I'm reading the book "Sudden Menopause" by (Debbie?) DeAngelo and it has a lot of suggestions on what to use besides Hormones to help us through the sudden change.

Best of luck to you.

alternatives to hrt

One of my girlfriends took Effexor after her total hyster to combat hot flashes. She is about 8 months out now and loves it. Technically, this is an antidepressant, but it also can be used for surgical menopause. She takes tons of calcium and vit D for the bones and will get a bone density scan yearly. Good luck!
