Back pain is it related?

I am 4 weeks post op from a TAH. I have healed very well and feel very little pain except at night when I lay down my lower back kills me! It also affects my legs and I find myself rolling around and tossing and turning and taking TONS of Advil which hardly helps.

Do you think it is related to the surgery or just back pain in general? I had it before the surgery but I always thought the fibroids were causing it. I was so happy the first 3 weeks post op that it was gone. That was one of my motivators for the surgery.

Grrrrr.... I guess it could just be a weak spot in my back. What do you think?

Back pain is it related?

There could be a couple of different factors at work here.

#1.....directly resulting from your surgery. You have been using different muscles because your abdomen is weak right now. You are using your back muscles to get up from a seated position, to hold your torso up while walking, to straighten your self after bending over. This is putting stress and working muscles that normally have stomch muscles to help.

#2....I too had alot of back and hip pain befor surgery. It was determined that I was in so much abdomen pain and had so much pressure pushing against internal organs and nerves that I was compensating by walking, sitting, standing in ways to try to deminish the pain causing me to work my back and hip muscles in a way that was un-natural thus creating pain.

When I scheduled my surgery I started an exercise regime to strengthen my back muscles and I still have back pain after the surgery but it feels like the type of pain you get when you have been working out and fatigue the muscles.

But then there is also the chance of internal infection. Always check your temp. and monitor your other symptoms and if ever in doubt call your Dr.

Back pain is it related?

I put a call into the Dr's office, I can't get an appointment until September, but I asked for more pain meds so we'll see what they say. I don't think anything is infected but maybe I am using different muscles. Most of my pain since the surgery has been in my back, not a lot of abdominal pain. In the hospital I kept describing my pain as back labor that won't go away. The nurse, who never had kids, just looked at me like I was dilusional.

So I'm sure my request for more pain meds will get my Dr to call me since I haven't asked for any in 2 weeks and I had to cancel my last weeks appt cuz there was no way for me to get there.

We'll see what happens!
