leaning toward novasure but unsure
I had the novasure 7-6-07. I had some bleeding and some cramping but nothing serious. Prior to the Novasure I was bleeding every day this year up until June. My cramps would stop me in my tracks.
I have had 3 days of no spotting or anything since the EA. I had cramps, but not near what they were before. Thinking back I only bled heavy for 2 or 3 days and just had blood on the toilet paper after. What sucked was all morning and afternoon, no blood then 5pm-7pm came along and blood either on the pad or toilet paper. That lasted a few hours and I would wake up blood free and repeat it for a week.
I also had a myomectomy and the gyn removed (shaved) a 2x2 cm fibroid from the wall of my uterus.
I'm waiting to see how bad or good the Sept period will be.
I'm very happy I did this prior to a hysterctomy. Thank goodness I have insurance and if I need the hysterecomy then so be it, but I tried a less invasive option first.
Good luck with everything and making the decision.

leaning toward novasure but unsure
I had Novasure done June 6 2006. It did drastically reduced the flow but then the cramps were so much more worse than prior. Now 15 months later I am scheduled for a hysterectomy. My doctor believes I have ando but won't know for sure. I am having my period now and it is heavier than usual. I went to my gyne wanting a hysterectomy (not knowing other alternatives) and he said I was to young and lets try the Novasure. He has classified it as a failure. I was so worried about the insurance company denying my claim for a hyster but my doctors scheduling nurse said since I had the Novasure they wouldn't deny it, and they didn't.
All I can say is that you know the right choice for you. You know your body. I am glad I had the ablation it gave me my life back for about 6 months to a year and cleared me of anemia.
Good luck to you and let us know what you decide.

I have to say, you gals really helped me to stop and think before doing anything. Since I have the option to take my time, I definately will stay on my bc pills (the stronger ones work ok so far) and wait. I'll have my follow up in October but dont think I'll have ablation for as long as the pills work. I have a gut feeling that I'd still have cramps every month and that wouldnt be cool with me. I am just going to watch and wait.
Thanks to everyone for sharing so freely your experiences. It's comforting to be supported by women who know the deal! Best of health to all of you!

i also had a nova sure ablation in april of this year. the surgery did not work for me. I still had 7 periods in 3 months and they were very painful. so hysterectomy was the only option left for me. good thing i did when my dr went in he found cysts on my overies that could not be removed with the ablation

I'm having NovaSure done tomorrow. In my case, I see it as a step on the road to hysterectomy. I'll be happy if it turns out as well as the studies and literature show, but my gut is telling me that it will only delay the inevitable (and subject me to general anesthesia twice)
It seems that the hysterectomy pendulum has swung the other way. Now you have to jump through hoops and suffer for a longer period of time to prove that you need a hysterectomy

I hear ya! I'd rather just have the hysterectomy and be done with all the problems but the doctor said we have to try other options first. It's a bummer...I may not be able to stay on the pill long term so nova sure is back on the front burner of possibilities. My regular dr. told me she has patients who are happy with their ablation. I guess it is a chance we take on the road to finding relief. I wish you the best! Its nice to know I am not alone on this road.

Thanks!
The procedure went very well. I had a hysteroscopy, D&C and NovaSure. My doctor told me that recovery from general anesthesia would be longer than the ablation.
The few times I've had surgery I had horrible nausea afterwards. I'm also very prone to motion sickness - have been since childhood. When I had knee surgery in January the anesthesia doc used additional and alternative methods to stop the nausea from occuring. When I woke up I felt great! Luckily I had the same anesthesia doc for yesterday's procedure and he remembered - I had zero post-op nausea. Actually felt good except for the cramping, which was no worse than I usually get every month. They offered me morphine, which would have kept me in recovery for another half hour. I said "heck no - get me out of here". Lesson learned - tell the doctor if you are at all prone to motion sickness or have had bad reactions to other surgeries.
I'm up and around today as usual. Didn't have to take any of the prescribed pain meds. Took two motrin and used a heating pad last night - worked just fine. Never had much bleeding and it stopped during the night.
The only things that linger are the sore throat from being intubated and stinging/raw sensation from being catheterized (don't know why these were necessary and will ask the doc at my follow-up).
I'm a bit more hopeful that the ablation will be a success given the relatively ease of the procedure.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
