Foul Odor - 4 weeks post op HELP

Ladies, oh please, oh please someone message back!

I have been itching all over like crazy tonight - sort of hive-ish (I had hives about 2 weeks ago)....so I'm scratching and itching and looking all over and lift my night shirt to see if there are hives on my abdomen and when I did (sorry, tmi) I smelled quite a foul odor (and believe me, I'm a clean FREAK). I realized it was coming from my belly button! Ewwwy. There was a little white stuff (guessing pus) in there, a little blood around it (tiny), I see stitches sticking out in there.....oh MAN! Should I call the dr.? tonight or tomorrow? HELP - what would you do?

So sorry to hear you are feeling poorly. First of all, when you had hives a few weeks ago, what caused it? And did you talk to the Dr. then? Also, if you are proned to hives, have you ever treated it with Benedryl?

My first thought is that there is some infection by that incision site. If so, and you start a fever, I would call the Dr. ASAP. Many Dr.s will call in a script for antibiotics for you.

If you do not have a fever, and can make it though the night, I would think a call to your Dr. first thing in the morning would be okay. But if it's really bothering you, call your Dr. tonight (you'll probably get an answering service) and see if they have a Dr. on call to talk to you.

It could possibly even be a yeast infection. This happened to me starting around 2 weeks. I had it on my chest and torso. It looked like a heat rash, but had puss looking white heads. The infected area was warm to touch, and once I started itching, I couldn't stop and at times drew blood if I itched long enough. Based on what I read on here, and what my Dr. told me, yeast infections are not uncommon after this type of surgery as the antibiotics given kill the good bacteria along with the bad. I was given a topical cream with both anti-bacterial and anti-fungel med.

Please let us know how you fair.

On the chance that it might be a yeast infection - while you are leaving messages for the doctor! - if you have any plain yogurt, smooth a bit on an itchy area and see if it helps!

Or - if you have any athlete's foot powder, again, just try a BIT!

Paste of baking soda and water...

I hope you get relief soon!
