Staples

I saw a thread that mentions someone wanting drugs for when they had their staples removed because they heard it hurt really bad. I have had 3 set of staples and only 1 hurt and that was because they came out early. IF you staples hurt when they come out, they are not ready to come out yet. I was told this by a dr. when I was anxious to have some removed. Staples should not hurt if they have been in long enough for the skin to heal. Just my point of view. Thanks

no pain for me, either

I had 25 staples removed ten days after surgery, and they didn't hurt one bit. I remember being so worried about it ahead of time.

I had a TAH with 6 inch bikini cut on 7/3/07. They took my staples out on 7/5/07 right before I left the hospital. It didn't hurt, just kind of pinched a little.

I had 25 staples removed just over a week after surgery. I was afraid staple removal would hurt but was surprised to find that it didn't.

My family also told me about how staples hurt when they're removed so I was all nerved up when I went in for the appointment.

I had 46 staples removed 10 days after my surgery. There is a strange sensation when they're being removed but I would Not describe it as pain.

The first staple is the hardest because until it's out you have no idea what it will feel like. Once it was out I was able to relax and the rest were a breeze!

Staples -- hurt like crazy....

I went to my PCP today to get my staples removed. It's been 2 and a half weeks since my surgery. I've had staples removed before on my ankle (twice) and it just pinched a bit but not really painful, so that is what I was expecting today.

That's not what happened!! My PCP (primary care physician) was only able to get 3 and a half staples out before I said no more -- I can't take it!!! It hurt really bad. I'm not sure if she just didn't know how to remove them or she didn't have the right tools. I personally think she was being too slow.

So, I'm going back on Thursday to my oncologist who did the surgery. I'm scared to death now that it will hurt. I can usually take pain but this was unreal! It's been about 5 hours since she tried to pull them out and I'm still hurting a bit.

Anyone else have this problem??

Jennie
