2 day away and scared to death
Ladies
My surgery is Tuesday and I am so scared that tears will fall out of no where. I cannot sleep and staying busy is not cutting it anymore. I don't think I am scared of the surgery. I am scared of the recovery and my emotional status afterwards. I am going to have a total hysto and I am so worried about going into menopause and loosing all my female parts. It is not that I want more children I have 4. It is loosing my identity. Also, as some of you have mentioned here before I am also tired of everyone telling me I will be ok when they have no clue the emotional roller coaster ride that is going on right now. None of my close girlfriends have been through this and my dh is trying to understand but he still is not getting it at times.
Tomorrow is the preop. By the way I cannot wait to weigh. That will probably give me high blood pressure. I hate weighing. Sorry just a little side note. I do plan on calling my Dr.'s office and asking for something to calm me down tomorrow or I will go nuts. I know in the back of my mind all will be ok but I cannot calm down. I have had several surgeries and never have been this anxious before. This is not like me and I am beginning to wonder if I am already loosing my identity.
I do hope everyone else out there that is going this week will be ok and have a speedy recovery. Thanks to all of you. This site has been a life saver for me.

Kat-
I also was afraid about recovery and what would happen to my body afterwards. I knew I wanted a full hysterectomy, so I was thrilled about no more endometriosis pain and no more heavy periods, but soooo afraid of that recovery and what to do with my 2 huge dogs, and a teenage son!
I PROMISE you, that EVERYTHING will work out fine. Get some books to read for when you come home and just relax!! i had my surgery on July 16th, so I am 6 weeks POST OP, and I still have NO menopausal symptoms and I feel great.
You won't feel much pain after surgery, because they will give you pain meds. I was out of the hospital in 2 days, and then was only on Motrin 600 milligrams. That's it, and I am NOT a person who likes any pain.
PLEASE post and let me know how everything goes after surgery. I will look for your post, and please, I promise you that everything will be fine.
 's to you!

2 day away and scared to death
Kate,
Thank you for the kind words of encouragement. Just having a rough day today. My house is a madhouse because all the kids are home including my college kid. My mind is reeling, so hearing your experience helps.
Thank you,
Kat

Hi Kat,
I feel your anxiety. I am 13 days post op (TAH/BSO/age 52) and my main concern before surgery was how I would feel afterwards.
Surgical menopause was my MAIN concern. I am happy to say that so far, I have only had a couple of warm flashes. Nothing bad. No crying jags, depression or mood swings. I guess it could still happen but I am doing 100 times better than I thought I would be doing.
It is such a relief to have the surgery behind me and on the mend. I am waiting for path reports and will breathe a sigh of relief when I hear I don't need further treatment for cancer. Oh, and NO MORE PADS!!!
Before surgery, I kept clinging to "If He leads me to it, He will get me through it." He did and He has. I feel great!
My main problem now is not overdoing it.
I know you are tired of hearing it, but you WILL be fine!! You will be so fine that you will chuckle about how scared you were before.
I will be looking for you on the other side. I'm sending calm vibes to you and keeping you in my prayers.
 Take care,

Red Hot,
Thank you for the calm vibes. I need them. I do hope that all your path tests turn out great. Maybe those calm vibes will take care of sweaty palms too.

2 day away and scared to death
I just kept thinking about no more pads, no more embarrassing moments, no more having to buy DEPENDS, double the undwear, and so on. I thought if I do have hot flashes and night sweats, and if I DO have them in the coming weeks, NOTHING can compare to not knowing if you have cancer, the horrible PAIN every month, and the bleeding so bad that you have no idea if you will wind up in the hospital.
I promise you, Kat, you are doing the right thing. I only wish I had found this site BEFORE my hysterectomy!

Hey I am also having TVH on Tuesday. I know how you feel. I have 2 small kids that are in every activity and my hubby is stressed also which does not help. Lets keep each other posted and together we can make it through.

I guess the pad thing will be a joy. I did think about that when I went down that aisle the other day. I will be saving some bucks on that one.

Tracy,
Hope you do well Tuesday and are in a better mood than I am right now. I also hope you have help coming for the children. You will not be able to do much afterwards.

Hi,
I just wanted to wish you luck Tuesday and to let you know I am going through the same concerns and thoughts. My surgery day is Sept. 5th. I have two small children, myself and I know how much of a handful kids can be. Well, best of luck, hugs.
