Ablation to hysterectomy
Hi all! I am so glad I found this site because it has been so helpful to me. I have been lurking around for a while but decided to finally post since my hysterectomy has been scheduled for September 13th.
I had the novasure ablation and tubal ligation in May 2006. At first my periods were just as heavy as preablation but eventually did taper off some. But in February of 2007 I started having excruciating pain on my right side and even down into my right leg. I have been to the ER and my regular doc but neither could find the source of the pain. The pain has continued and I have finally had enough. It is affecting my life. When the pain hits, I am on the ground. Anyway, I had an ultrasound this past Monday and he found fibroids and a cyst on my LEFT ovary. He wants to leave my ovaries if they are ok and I am fine with that, however I am afraid it won't get rid of the pain since I don't know if the pain is from my uterus or my ovary. The doctor thinks the pain is from the uterus.
Has anyone else had this same experience and if so, what happened with your hysterectomy? I am so afraid that if he just takes my uterus the pain will still be there and I won't have another chance to have surgery for quite some time.
Thanks for your help!

Ablation to hysterectomy
I had the same past. I got a tubal in 2004 in 2005 had the ablation and then about 6 months after that the pains started. With me it is on my left side and I feel you with the pain it is unreal!!! My Dr. wanted to do a hyst. last August but I was scared and since then I have had HORRIBLE pains so I went in 3 weeks ago and as of right now I am waiting to find out when my surgery is. I understand where you are coming from and hope we can help each other out. Are you having a bladder sling done?? Hope everything goes very well with you I will keep you in my thoughts!! Are you having a vaginal or abdominal done?

Ablation to hysterectomy
I will be having abdominal and he plans on keeping my cervix and ovaries. He did not mention a bladder sling. I am really anxious to have the surgery to get rid of the pain, however not knowing just what the source of the pain is scares me! Thanks for responding to my post and yes, we can definately help each other!

Ablation to hysterectomy
selpac,
I had a smiliar experience, an ablation in Oct. 06, and immediately it went bad. I was in lots of pain until my doc and I decided to do the TVH in Feb. 07. After talking to my doc., we decided to try and keep the ovaries, as the natural hormones are worth to try and keep if at all possible. In my case, it didn't work, I ended up with a bunch of cysts on both ovaries, endo returned, adhesions from the original infection my first doc. caused during the ablation. I went back for the BSO in July. It wasn't fun to have to go back to surgery again within 5 mos. (I had 4 total in 10 mos) but, I'm still glad that I tried to keep the "ladies." Surgical menopause is not fun and it was worth it to me to try and avoid it!! But I also don't handle meds. well, so I knew trying to find a HRT I could tolerate and do well on would be difficult.
I wish you the best of luck!

Ablation to hysterectomy
Hi Selpac
I too had my tubal many years ago 17 t be exact and had an ablation dec of 06 due to heavy bleeding, which was so bad it cause the anemia to get so bad I ended up having transfusion. My visit to the castle is scheduled for 9/10 I'm having a TAH. I'm curious why is the doctor not taking your cervix as well. There is a potential for mini periods when the cervix is left so was this an option for you? In answer to your question, I received the same pain about 3-4 months after my ablation. I think the back pain has been the worse for me.

Ablation to hysterectomy
Very interesting......I started having excrusciation pain, especially during sex, about 2 months ago, 3 months after my ablation. I didn't think it could have been that.....that explains a lot. My doctor said it's probably from adhesions.
Best of luck with your surgery!

Ablation to hysterectomy
I had a tubel 18 years ago - I've had 3 c-sections. Last four years very bad periods. Endo. biopsies every year - torture!
Novasure & D&C in October. Horrible pain shortly thereafter and still bleeding! Had a small fibroid outside my uterous. Doctor said that could not be what was causing the problem. It was a sort of mystery. Then become somewhat incontinent. Had a TAH on 12/13/06. When she was doing the surgery, she found scar tissue all around my organs - grew from prior sections. This did not show up on any of the ultrasounds I had had.
It grew around my intestine, kidneys, bladder and uterous. After the ablation, when you still go trough you cycle, by uterous would contract and my bladder was being pulled in - hence the incontinence. Anyway, she said she never saw anything like it and they had to call another surgeon in to remove the scar tissue from the organs. They had to keep my cervix in because it was too intangled with my rectum.
On a GREAT note, I feel great 8 months out! Just still a little belly and a little weight to lose (it was a long recovery). But, other than that, I feel so much better!!
Good luck!
P.S. I'm on .625 premarin. It seems to be working o.k.

Ablation to hysterectomy
Hi Selpac,
I had the exact same problem as you. I had an tubal many years ago, then an ablation done in Oct of 04. For several years I've experienced horrible pain on my right side that focuses on my groin and goes down my leg. It seems cyclical and gets worse when I have to have a BM. I had a TVH in Apr 05, leaving my ovaries. My gyn thought the hyst would resolve the pain but unfortunately I had no relief. My gyn then said it was probably ovarian functional cysts that would grow and burst on their own and I would have to live with the pain. In April of this year I saw a uro/gyn for prolapse problems and when he pressed on my right ovary I had to be peeled from the ceiling. He said my ovary felt enlarged and hard and probably needed to come out. He also said that the ovary was likely what was causing my pain.
So, unfortunately in my case, a hysterectomy did not resolve my right sided pain. Hopefully the surgery I have on Sep 10th will. The uro/gyn is going in abdominally so he said he would take a good look at the area to make sure there aren't any hidden adhesions or pockets of endo that could be causing the pain (although I've never had endo in the past).
Selpac, I truly hope the hyst resolves your pain. Best wishes with your surgery and may you have a speedy recovery!

Ablation to hysterectomy
Thank you so much for all the replies. It does help to know that someone else can sympathize with what we are going through. I do hope the hysterectomy takes care of the pain and that it isn't my ovary. I will let you all know what happens.
Best wishes to all.
