Painfull BM Please advise!!
Hey to all my sisters.
I am just over 2 weeks p/o and these BMs are killing me! One min I cant go at all, but the pain of it all shifting about inside, is enough to make me curl up in to a hot and cold sweaty ball and wish the earth would swallow me up. Then the next min I am running back and forth to the loo every 10 min. With the same excruciating pain.
Please reassure me that there will be an end to this nightmare. And if there is how much longer do I have to wait?
I have been taking movacol since leaving the castle, and I am now off the pain killers. What more can a princess do??
Love to all Aisha xx

Don't worry - it does get better. For me, it lasted 3-4 weeks; but now everything's back to normal.

movacol is a drink that is meant to regulate you and soften the stool, but at the moment it all feels more like IBS (irritable bowl syndrome) Can you get IBS from this opp??

I'm so sorry you're having this trouble right now. If it helps any (and it probably doesn't) you're far from alone.
This is a major abdominal surgery, and many have the same or similar problems for several weeks post-op. For me, it really took a couple of months before everything seemed somewhat normal.
I've never reacted well to laxatives and stool softeners. They tend to produce in me the same problem you're having now -- the endless "buildup" of pain, then almost diarrhea afterwards. No fun, and certainly not the intended result.
Some (((sisters))) swear by such things as warm prune juice (or just prunes and dried fruit in general), adding *some* fiber (not too much, though -- that can be bad, too), or black coffee -- that is, if you can tolerate it. These can substitute for a stool softener or laxative, because sometimes those laxatives can just be too harsh for our systems.
I would recommend calling the doctor to see what he/she can do for you. For me, I got better result from just watching my diet more (cut out cheese and cut down on dairy products, which tend to cause intestinal issues for me), drink more water, and walk more often.
to you. I hope you're feeling better soon.

this too shall pass....how awful I think this is one of the worst of the whole surgery recovery ... I dont think there is a way around the pain of when things are moving thru ..I think what helps is stool softeners my nurse told me 4 a day and lots of water..other wise take pain pill before you know whats fixing to happen..I don't think that even helps that kind of pain .. try to breath I think the in thru your nose and out of your mouth kinda helps..other than that try to remember you are allmost thru the worst part..

Thanks all!
I was wondering whether the laxatives where adding to the problem. I know the pain killers were. I will chat to my GP and see what they say but am wondering if to give them up and replace them with prunes and the like as mjd2491 suggested. Natural has to be better than that processed stuff. :run3: I will def tell you when it all comes to an end for me. Sooner rather than later I hope.
I was asking if sex will ever be the same post opp, i think I should have asked for after care instructions on what going to the toilt will bring ya!

Ah you'll be fine weepy.
Just give it time on the sex side of it and I am sure it will be magical for you and your partner.
I had a TAH on the 24th Aug 07, the opp went fine, apart from the over dose of morphine they gave me post opp, that dam near killed me!
I have had problems with my reproductive organs since starting my periods at the tender age of 9. The only time it settled was after having my 2 daughters. But then a misarrange that wasn't dealt with properly back in 1999 set it all off again. After that I had a battle with cervical cancer, and 18 months before my hysta had a balloon ablation. The ablation closed my cervix up tight, causing me to have labor type contractions for 2 to 3 weeks every time I had a period. So finally after trying every drug known to man and having a cervical stretch, they agreed to giving me the hysterectomy. Thank goodness! Apart from these unruly bowl movements I am already feeling the benefits, but all will be reviled in a week or two when the time of month would normally be due! They left my ovaries due to my age, so I don't have that side to contend with. I am waiting on the report from my cervix to make sure it was cancer free. Apart from that I got a slight infection post opp that I'm on antibiotics for. I do hope that once my insides heal from the opp my BMs will also cease to be painful!
Only time will tell!!!
