stitches in vagina same as rectocele?
I knew before my hysterectomy "things weren't where they belonged" I told my gyno he said he could check it out and give me more stitches up in my vagina .. thats what he did ...pardon me here ... but its the only way I can find out...after the hospital when I got to take a shower I was like YEEHAW!!!! I had traded in my old buick for a brand new caddi...nothing was ... well trying to exit my vagina ... now there is nothing pertruding like before but there is something ...the wall from my rectom?..just inside the opening of my vagina...you know that little bulge ... my question ..If he stitched way up in there my vagina as he said "like a sock that has fallen" He pulled my sock up....so when he did that ..did that fix my rectum dilema ? I had to make a trip to him last week for him to make sure it wasn't a hematoma or something ..at first when I felt it I thought my stitches up in my vag. had come undone bad days last week it wouldn't have supprised me...well I get in there and I was so imbaressed..nope "stitches are fine" "I dont know what you are feeling" He told me to feel down there and show him ... I am not sure laying down ..I told him I can feel it standing up ..I had to stand up put my foot on the stirrup I see the nurse and I thought she was going to bust out laughing .... we have to get a mirror ..I caint especially see it at this angle but I can definately feel it..nope he caint see anything ..."well this is your lips and this is that " ...like I am 12 and a loon or something..I left that office sooo imbarressed I just wanted to melt in the floor. Well since then I have felt and I know what I feel. Now my six week check is the 11th when I go in there I want to know what I am talking about. I am sorry I have rambled I havn't talked to any one about this...let me be clear here..before my surgery there were time I would have to push with my finger on that bulge to get things thru my rectum..sorry about that...its just I want yall to know I know what that bulge is....please forgive me I hope this all makes since and some one can shed a little light for me...thanks for any info ...

stitches in vagina same as rectocele?
waitingstill--
That had to be hard trying to describe your problem and being treated like that. I'm sorry you had to go through that.
I'm only guessing but from the way you describe it, the bulge you felt before your surgery was most likely a rectocele. Some doctors are trying to get away from calling them that and are calling it a 'posterior wall prolapse' instead. It means the same thing basically. The fact that you had to push on it to remove stool is one of the common descriptions of what is often done with rectoceles. Rectoceles are herniations of the rectovaginal septum or 'wall' in between the rectum and vagina.
Are you saying that you still feel the need to push on your rectocele to be able to empty your bowels? If so, you can tell your Dr. that at your next appointment. Many women have had this problem and you are definitely NOT alone in that.
A good doctor AND his staff should never make you feel stupid or embarassed. I think I'd go elsewhere if mine didn't treat me with respect. The doctor I have now even examined me while standing up to check on my prolapse before my surgery back in February and I thought that was a great idea. I even think ALL doctors who treat women with prolapse should do that. How often do we spend our days just lying down after all? No, we spend them standing, walking, and sitting UP.
Perhaps you can ask your Dr. if your rectocele is fully repaired and describe to him that you still feel a bulge and that it is uncomfortable. You can tell him whether you still need to push on it to remove stool (called splinting). You can even tell him you learned that many Urogynecologists (UroGYN) examine their patients standing up to check the full extent of their prolapses because they realize that many prolapses do NOT show up while a patient is lying down.
I hope this helps shed a little bit of that light. Sending many S and +++ thoughts....

stitches in vagina same as rectocele?
first thank you .. yes you did help me out ...no I have not had to help by pushing on this wall or what ever it is ..not since my surgery. The only time I had to before was in extreme situations, most of the time my intestines run too fast. For awhile in my life I had to take imimpramine to slow things down. When I would have to assist the situation tho I knew what it was. Now tho..my question is when he stitched my vagina up high, he stitched it to something up inside to keep it up...when he did that would that have fixed the wall between my vagina and rectum? I have to go back in his office in the morning. Thanks again for your help with this...

It sounds like he might have done something to prevent vaginal prolapse. Since you had a TVH (right?) you most likely had either a culdoplasty or one done with a mesh sling material to 'pull up' and support the apex of your vagina and keep it from falling. This can help fix an enterocele which is a prolapse of the small intestine into the vagina and as my first doctor told me, and can also help with a small rectocele somewhat. However, if you have additional stitches, it sounds as if your Dr. may have done some extra fixing of your rectocele. Just ask your Dr.
OR you can go directly to the hospital itself and get your own surgical report. I have done that every time I've had surgery. It's quite easy and legal for you to do. I just go to the records department of the hospital and sign a document saying I want all the records pertaining the dates I was in the hospital on the date or dates I need. If I just want the surgical report, then that's what I ask for. If I want everything including the anesthesiologist's notes and nursing notes, then I ask for those, too. Some hospitals ask for a small copying fee and I've been asked for that only once, I believe.
My hospital is right next door to my UroGYN's office so it's easy for me to get my report right before or after a Dr. appt. You might want to go today and get yours before your appt. tomorrow.
Sending extra {{{HUGS}}}... ....
