GoLytely - there sure is alot of it!!

Oh gag, I just mixed up my prep, GoLytely, and after 1 glass am already feeling its effects. Fortunately, I was told that I could mix it with something to help the flavor - I'd like to suggest the little foil tubes of sugar-free drink mixes from Wally World. I used Cherry Limeade and it isn't horrible, but the consistency is like drinking really runny boogers.

Does anyone know if I seriously have to drink the whole thing??? 2 pint glasses barely made a dent in it. I am gonna have to keep it on ice in the bathroom because I have no idea how I will be able to drink THAT MUCH stuff in only 4 hours.

Got my friend's bathroom stocked - extra TP, soothing baby wipes, vaseline, crossword puzzle books and one of the Harry Potter books I haven't read yet. I have a feeling I just might have time to finish it tonite.

Speaking of feelings - I gotta run....

A Harry Potter book??? Man, you must really have a LOT of that stuff to drink!

Seriously though, good luck with it and good luck tomorrow! I wish my day was here.

We'll be thinking of you.

OK, after a diet of soft foods Friday and Saturday and only clear liquids today, I started the Golytely at 3:00, about 2 hours ago. I am alrady "all clear." Literally. The only thing exiting is clear liquid, tinted the same color as the drink powder. Nothing solid whatsoever. I called the hospital and tried to reach my doctor - no one there was of ANY help at all. I wasn't given a whole lot of info about this, other than start at 3 and stay close to a bathroom. I am wondering if now that there is nothing coming out, do I still need to drink the rest? I am getting kinda used to the flavor, so that isn't the issue, I just don't want to caue my tushie any more grief - it is already hurtin' pretty bad!!

I don't know if the "small bottle" is going to be that much better. I've been hearing horror stories about how bad the mag citrate tastes. Will let you know this time next week!

Too funny . . . I was talking to my grandmother who had a hyst. in the early 80s. When I told her about the mag citrate she laughed and said that when she was a kid it was common to so "spring cleaning" so to speak. Her mom made her drink castor oil and my grandfather was made to drink mag citrate. Must have made quite an impression!

Good luck and speedy recovery to you, Amy!

to all.

I didn't do a bowel prep for my hysterectomy (they had me give myself enemas when I got to the ), but I did one for a colonoscopy. If you read the instructions that came with your "stuff", I believe it says you can stop drinking it when there is no solid material coming out. You can also go on the Internet and google your particular prep to get the instructions.

As for wanting to do one prep over another.... check with your doctor before doing anything other than exactly what you were instructed to do. I wondered if I should do "more" than what I was instructed, and another wise (((sister))) advised me that I should go to the hospital exactly as they expect -- a patient who ate right up to midnight the night before and has done no bowel prep.

Similarly, if your docs have prescribed an enema, you should do an enema, not another type of prep which might leave you significantly more dehydrated than the one prescribed.

to all and best wishes.

Thanks for the input everybody. I took one last dose and am tossing the rest since there is just nothing left. Gonna go take a shower, watch a movie then off to sleepy land. Such a relief - the waiting is almost over!!
