Fibroids and symptoms

My six fibroids that they know about are smallish, but I'm having symptoms (that my doc totally brushes off) and I keep wondering if they missed something.

I'm really frustrated with my doctor -- I waited two months for her to come back from maternity leave and the only symptoms she cares about are heavy bleeding and pain. Personally, I think it's a "quality of life" issue when I'm having a period every two weeks, even if I'm NOT anemic. And the pressure on my bladder is uncomfortable and has caused incontinence and my joints are painful because of the bloating. QUALITY OF LIFE?

I'm frustrated with the medical community...

My primary care provider blew me off. So I went behind her back and started seeing a GYN specialist. SHE takes me seriously. I feel so fortunate. Our medical system does have it's problems. Because of HMOs and lots of other little things many doctors don't have the freedom they once had to freely treat their patients. You don't have to be in constant pain and have super heavy periods to lose quality of life. Find a doc who will take you seriously! ~ jen : )

Thanks, Jen. You're right. There is a Fibroid Clinic at a university hospital near here and I'm planning to call them and see how long it takes to get an appointment.

My doc is a gynecologist -- just not a very good one.

I am sorry you are frustrated with the medical community. I know at times it can be frustrating to find a doctor who works well for you and your situation. If you are not happy with your GYN, please try to find a new or speak to your GP. Your GP may be able to get you in to a new doctor quicker than trying on your own.

We do have several Fibroid Resources you may want to read through to learn more about fibroids.

Many best wishes to you!

It stinks your doctor isn't taking you serious. I had felt that way as well before I had my ablation. So, I talked to some ladies I work with to find someone and found a doctor who listened and solved problems.

Good luck and I know you'll find a doctor to listen to you!

Fibroids and symptoms

Hi Fibroids'RUs,

I think getting a 2nd or even a 3rd opinion is a good idea. I got two opinions myself on how to proceed with my fibroids and I am still very glad I did. It is important to trust a Dr. - and it sounds like you are having some doubts with your current Dr.

Sending best wishes~

the best thing you can do is get a second opinion. is there a big university type hospital near you where you can see a fibroid specialist?

Fibroids and symptoms

I can so totally relate to the quality of life. I just don't understand the concept of some dr's today. It is as if they want all women to keep everything they have no matter what. It makes no sense to me.

I am going through a nightmare myself in trying to find a decent, trustworthy gyn to help me with my fibroids. Mine are the size of jr. size basketballs. The last gyn I saw told me to that the IUD would solve this problem, but it didn't. So, when I went back, he scratched his head and told me that he really didn't think there was "that" big deal of a problem, and wanted to play the game "watchful waiting." Ohhh no. Not for me. Pain is pain is pain.

Please keep us posted on how this turns out.

Blessings,

Fibroids and symptoms

Hello Ladies,

I have wonderful news to share...I finally found a compassionate gyn who agreees with me about the pain issue. Finally - someone "gets it".

She read over my previous 2 wacko (and I say that with only love in my heart) gyn's, who were male, notes. And both agrees that I was a "hysterical female" with menstral cramping. There was nothing in there about the pain before, during or after my period, nothing about the heavy bleeding, nothing about the clots. After a short talk with the gyn, she examed me. She couldn't even do a complete exam because of just how malformed my uterus was from endom. and the fibroids. So after I left she called them to ask about their thinking of my case, etc.

I go in next week for a D&C, and biopsy only for insurance purposes. Then the following month I will be having a complete hysterectomy. The gyn said that she could see the fibroids showing up on the pelvic ultrasounds, and they were huge. So, there is just no doubt about what is going on. Now, on the other hand...she did say the endo. could have spread to my gall bladder and appendix. So during surgery, I may have to have them removed as well. I just don't care anymore because of the pain issue. I am just relieved that she understands my pain.

Thank God for this website. I would be so very lost without the support here.

Blessings Galore!
