menopausal symptoms?
I am 3 weeks post op today and feel great ( compared to what I was feeling before surgery ). I was not experiencing any menopausal symtoms before surgery and at this point I still am not. I am 51 yrs old and was still having periods with no hot flashes, etc. When I went for my post-op last Wednesday to remove the staples, the doctor
told me that I would be having symptoms by then if I was going to have them. Is this possible? Are there women out there who don't have the hot flashes, night sweats etc that I assumed would go along with this? Is it true that I should be having some symptoms by now? I am not on any hormones, either..
Thanks for any reply ladies!

menopausal symptoms?
Some women have symptoms and others do not. My mother had no hot flashes or anything other than some added irritability. I on the other hand had hot flashes (not too bad) lost sleep etc. Each woman is different. If you do not have issues...do NOT think you "should."

menopausal symptoms?
I'm almost six weeks post-op and my flashes are few and hardly noticeable. Only thing that seems to have changed is that my OTC sleep med no longer works at the usual dosage (I'm a life-long insomniac) so I'm trying different things to cope with this (and NOT hrt!)
I've read on this site that sometimes our bodies store estrogen in our fat cells, so some women may become more symptomatic as the months go by, depending on the amount of estrogen stores they had. I assume eventually one can deplete these stores completely and then maybe one might have the more severe symptoms--but then again maybe not. I've always had kind of chubby thighs (even at low and normal weights) and I have a feeling that I probably have plenty of estrogen stored there! Plus I noticed that a hard knot I've had in one breast since adolescence is no longer there--probably had loads of estrogen stored there as well and most of that is now gone. That might all explain why so far I've been so comfortable following surgery. Then again, maybe not! Time will tell.

menopausal symptoms?
Thanks for the replies! The only symptom that I have noticed this week is that I am a bit tearful. Just kind of sad and sentimental tearful. Probably just too much time on my hands at home sitting around ! ha hahaaa

menopausal symptoms?
Donna C -
That sounds kinda scary...feeling disconnected like that. I haven't experienced that, but with the vast array of side effects with a hysterectomy, it wouldn't surprise me. It might be worth a call to your doctor to ask him/her about your symptoms. Sorry you are having these
things happening.. its got to be tough...

menopausal symptoms?
tinyfeetzf,
9 weeks post op for me this coming Monday, (Sept 17th) and NOTHING in the way of menopausal symptoms. I am just thanking the good lord for this as I had such a terrible time for soooo long with my periods. I am looking at this as a gift from God.
I am 45 years old, had severe endo, fibroids, tumors, and severe heavy bleeding.
Think postitively and maybe you and I will be like my gynie who is 3 YEARS post op and never had any symptoms!
Hugs!!
Kate

menopausal symptoms?
No symptoms here, either. I am 60 years old and will be 6 weeks post-op on Tuesday. I have never experienced hot flashes or any sign of menopause or pain for that matter. I also never stopped having periods. Maybe it was a period or maybe it was abnormal bleeding. I did have complex hyperplasia with enlarged uterus, fibroids, cysts on ovaries, endometriosis and abdominal adhesions. One ovary was connected to my colon and my uterus was connected to my bladder. The reason I say all this is that I am also overweight and producing estrogen in adipose tissue (fat).
It is true that fat produces and stores estrogen. When I asked my doctor if I would have hot flashes she didn't have an answer. She said that at 60 my ovaries were no longer producing but it is obvious that I am receiving estrogen from somewhere. I must say that since the surgery I feel absolutely the same as before. I can't tell that there is anything missing. Maybe I am just lucky.

I am so glad to hear of others who are not experiencing any symptoms either. It just doesnt seem right somehow.. but I will just count it among my many blessings :-). Now, if this itching all over my belly would just go away... ;-)
