keep overies or not??

I am supposed to have surgery on Sept.18 and my Dr gave me the choice of keeping my overies or just taking them out and I have went back and forth several times and just don't know what to do!! I am 36. Hyperplasia and possible cancer was found in my uterus during a D&C but we do not know if the overies are affected or not until they get in there and look and then I might not have a choice anyway but if there isn't anything "obvious" going on with them my Dr. thinks I should keep them but I am scared about later on if something does develope in them that there is no way of knowing or any symptoms of ovarian cancer until it is in the later stages and too late to do anything! Has anyone else had this decision to make and what were your experiances? I just don't know what to do! If you have had your overies out and had to deal with the early menaupause stuff what is it like? Any info would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you in advance!

keep overies or not??

I am having my surgery on the 18th too. I don't know what I am going to do either. I have to tell my doctor on the 17th what I want. She thinks I should keep them if they are in good condition. I think I will keep them. I want to delay menopause as long as possible for the sake of my bones.

keep overies or not??

Hi Swiwolf07,
I am thing about the same thing. I talk to ladies that said they just had one removed. The side that caused them the most problems. I have PCOS and thought that I should get both removed and see that I have three options not just two. I am going to have the doctor keep the left if there is not a porblem with it.

if they are healthy and you dont have a strong family history of ovarian cancer, i'd do a lot of research on the pros of keeping them. they provide you with hormones even after menopause. by keeping them, you should avoid surgical menopause and hrt. i kept my ovaries and cervix and i'm very happy with my decision. the only way my life has changed is i dont get a period and i'm not anemic anymore...all positives. good luck ladies
