total hyterectomy at 40- dont we need some hormone help?
Hi Barri,
I'm BRCA2 + and have made the same decision you have. I watched my mother die of ovarian cancer at age 56 and you are absolutely right about screening - there is no truly effective screening for ovarian cancer - all of my doctors from my GP to gynocological oncologist are clamoring for me to have this surgery. And I agree with them - it is just too dangerous to take a "wait and see" attitude with the BRCA mutations when it comes to ovarian cancer.
I am scheduled for my surgery on Nov. 1 and am worried too but know that it will be better than risking ovarian cancer. I hope your surgery and recovery go well!

hi again Barri,
I think I understand better and I really do wish you all the best... I too used to do the whole ca125 thing.... and I must say that now theres a lot more relief as in not having to do that whole thing anymore... do you do the breast MRI year along wit the mamogram? or mid year between mamograms.... maybe I should start doing that, especially since I have started estrogen therapy... good luck once again...

I have the MRI in October and the mammogram in April.
Talk to your dr. about the MRI it is one more line of defense. I had to fight my insurance company at first, but at the time there was not much known about the BRCA genes, now I have no problem. Being tested like this there is a very good chance they would find any breast cancer in it's very early stages.
Best wishes to you,
Barri

I too am having some of the no hormone symptoms. I am arranging to get the progesterone cream as soon as possible. However I am confused re. the oestrogen. I understand that there must be a balance between the 2, do I need to use the oestrogen as well as the progesterone?

Yep - I noticed we had the same date after I posted my response. Mine is not absolutely for sure yet - I need to have anterior/posterior repairs which require getting another doctor to do the surgery too. I meet with her next week and will know for sure then. I'm hoping mine will indeed be on Nov. 1st!
I'm in California too, so we will be in the same time zone - my surgery is supposed to start at 8:30am.

total hyterectomy at 40- dont we need some hormone help?
Hello
I am new here and not sure what I am doing. I have been on many lists before (mostly to do with dog stuff and dog training as I am a professional dog trainer), but this list is new to me.
But back to why I am here. I was diagnosed with uteran cancer two years ago and had a full hysterectomy (uterus, ovaries and cervix), two years ago this coming January.
I opted for *no* hormone replacement, but now I feel like I may have to change this decision. Lately I am feeling very moody. I am very sensitive and cry easily, I have way less patience then I used to and sometimes feel depressed. I am also tired most of the time and have a lot of aches and pains. Too be honest I almost feel like I am having constant PMS.
I am wondering if anyone has any experience they can share with me - on almost two years post surgery and not doing hormone replacement and/or deciding on hormone replacement after almost two years post surgery.
Thanks,
Jackie

I think I was on estrace 10 mg. Excuse my ignorance but what is ERT? A lower dose patch does sound like the right option. I had a doctor appt scheduled for 10/18 but they just cancelled, ARGH! Now I need to call and reschedule. I seriously can't take these hot flashes. I just keep trying to tolerate them since I know I am a lot better of then most people. I have a freind struggling with cancer and my sister in law just passed away suddenly at 45 with heart disease. Thanks for your input.

Heide,
First I am so sorry to hear about your friend and sister-in-law
ERT ... mean estrogen replacment therapy.
After my surgery my Dr. is going to put me on low-dose premirin(?) patch, then go from there.
I full understand how miserable are.
Good luck and hope you can get in to see your dr. SOON.
Barri
