I would say it depends on how much time you have. But better to start than not start.

1. I would start eating healthy to improve the immune system.
2. Take vitamins and supplements that would help with the immune system and help build the body up for the surgery and help build it up for recovery.
3. No blood thinners before surgery...cut them out about 10 days to 2 weeks. Advil for instance is a blood thinner. So is Vitamin E.
4. Exercise. Strengthen your upper body and your abs. You will need your upper body to help prop you up as you regain the use of your abs. If your abs are already relatively strong it will be easier to reactivate them after surgery. Exercise also release endorphins which help with pain and can last awhile. Exercise also improves circulation and well that is good too. One reason they want you to move post surgery is to prevent clots. If you don't move, blood stagnates and clots can form. You do NOT want a clot. That said, they do want you to take it easy. Balance in everything.
5. I would do a bowel prep the day before surgery. The day after I would insure I'm drinking plenty of water and taking in sufficient fiber so that the first BM is not too strenuous. You want a BM that just comes without effort because the muscles will be sore.

Hi pattys59!

There is a terrific page, including checklists, to help you prepare for your upcoming hysterectomy, located here:

Pre-Op Checkpoint

My pre-op exam was conducted by my family physician, a few days prior to the surgery.

Many s and Best Wishes,

Hi
I am new to this site. I will be having a LAVH and Bilateral Selango oopherectomy on Oct. 4th and was told not to take flax seed or fish oil two weeks before surgery. I take both so have to discontinue these. Would like any info that I would need for this big event. Plan on taking estrogen as soon as possible mostly for my bones. Has anyone had this procedger done.
