Anxiety: Starting Prozac 20 mg. first time user,

Okay, so I met with a counselor to discuss my recent panic attack on day 9 of post-op. I will be continueing my counseling and she recommended an anxiety med. So I also met with a Dr. for the issue of Prozac 20 mg. . I am new to this type of drug.

I am going away this coming Sat. to get away and relax in a different atmosphere. I was told that this type of med could take 2 - 3 weeks to take a positive effect on my system. Was warned of the possible neg effects at first.

I am thinking I should take it at bedtime. I also take Lunesta 3mg at bedtime.

No HRT mentioned at this time. The Dr. is aware of my meds I take.

Anyone experiernced out there on Prozac?

LAVH- removed uterus, both tubes, right ovary, cervix.
Hist. of endometriosis, left ovary removed 1994 (choc cyst)

I picked up the Surgical Pathology Report and byopsy report, need an education in medical terms to understand.

Thank you to all.

Anxiety: Starting Prozac 20 mg. first time user,

Yes i have been taking 20-40 mg of prozac for about 4 years now. It depends on what kind of day i'm having for how many mg. i'll take. most of the days it's only 20mg. It does take about 2 weeks to totally give you the full effect of calmness but you should start noticing a difference in about 3-4days. I take mine in the morning when i wake up to get the full effect while i'm awake. But you should take it everyday to get the best effect of the medication. For me i'm not as angry or hiper anymore. I used to be really mad all the time and not really no why. But watch out one of the side effects is to put on some weight. Best of luck to you.

Anxiety: Starting Prozac 20 mg. first time user,

Never taken Prozac, but I take Paxil 60 mg at bedtime, I have been on it for 10 years and they just added a new one for me called Trazadone to help me calm down... i noticed right away with the trazadone......... boy did it help me sleep the first week thank god cause it was 1 week after surgery. It was hard to fall asleep, but once I did, I slept great and I have noticed some change I fall asleep earlier now due to not sleep as much during the day. And i do feel better. IT may take some time to start working, but it is so worth it to me. YOUR GOING TO DO GREAT it just takes some time. If your that concerned maybe your can get another Med for the time being like Valuim, Xanax or Ativan for the mean time until the Prozac takes it course and full affect. xoxoxoxoxo thinking about you

Anxiety: Starting Prozac 20 mg. first time user,

kamkins, try to take it easy on yourself. You have just had major surgery & your body is healing. Make sure you talk to your Dr. about the start of any new drug. You should know that people that take antidepressant & anti anxiety pills often need to try several types before they find the one that's right for them. It can be a lot of trial & error. We're here for you.

Anxiety: Starting Prozac 20 mg. first time user,

I have anxiety disorder and did not do well with prozac. It made me shakey. Of course everyone reacts differently to meds. If I were you I would take it in the mornings. It tends to be a stimulating type of med.
