Bladder suspension lift restrictions
I have been doing research on bladder suspension, TVT and TVTO and have discovered that there are some recommendations that you NEVER lift more than 25lbs for the rest of your life.
Has anyone been told this? I can't imagine. I can't imagine not being able to do my canning, move my furniture, carry my sewing maching, or lift a child.
As a matter of fact I think each of my dining room chairs weigh 27lbs!
Maybe that surgery isn't worth it. I just don't know.
Thanks for any info you can provide.

Bladder suspension lift restrictions
That's a very good question for your doctor since he/she knows you and your medical background best. It doesn't really seem too far fetched though considering that heavy lifting could cause pelvic floor problems. I've read that some women around here have lifting restrictions 'for life' after their hysterectomies. I guess it really depends on your own doctor's recommendations and you.
I didn't have any bladder work done when I had my hysterectomy and I wasn't given any lifting restrictions following my recovery period, but my doctor did say to be careful when lifting and if I didn't have to lift something heavy, then don't.
I'm sorry I'm not a whole lot of help on this subject, but maybe someone around here who had a bladder suspension done can share their lifting experience.

I had a bladder sling and basic reconstruction of my bladder. I had restrictions for 6 weeks. My dr. said I can now lift anything; within reason! His exact words were, "don't lift a piano, and don't lift anything that causes you to strain. Lifting children is fine. Just no straining". Of course, I don't want to lift a piano !! So I am just using good comon sense and lifting only what I know I can easily lift. I do lift a 22-month-old child daily, and I am fine. I hope this info has helped you.

Bladder suspension lift restrictions
When I had my prolapse surgery I had restictions for about 7 weeks and then lift things within reason, like children, groceries----- no heavy, heavy lifting.

CountrySunshine, are they going to use mesh to reinforce when they do the bladder work? I wonder if that is the key to weight limits.
I had read the same thing you did and when I asked my doc, she said once the six week recovery was up, I'd have no restrictions whatsoever. She said I could waterski again if I desired. Hmmmm. No mesh is anticipated for me. It is worrisome, though. Twenty-five lbs is a sack of groceries under each arm.
There is so much unknown and so much on a case by case basis.

Hmmmm....I'll be having the Monarc mesh sling and I wasn't told that I had restrictions for the rest of my life. But, now you've got me curious! I've already had both of my pre-op appts. so I suppose I could call and ask. I guess it doesn't really make a huge difference. I need it done now. If things start falling again as I get older, I'll just cross that bridge when I get to it. I may just forget about it when I get to be a certain age. We'll see!
In a way, it makes sense about the life-long lifting restrictions. I know someone who had recurring debilitating hernias. He had to change careers because he could no longer lift heavy items on a regular basis.

I'm glad I found this because I may have to have this done when my FMLA falls clear again.

Bladder suspension lift restrictions
I'm having a bladder repair, and my doc says to me, "you have to live your life", meaning: be careful but don't miss out on life by being too careful. He said that if I needed another repair years down the road, mesh would most likely be used, but he's not using it this surgery. My thought is: if the lifting is making my face turn red, I'm probably over doing it.

I had a bladder suspension. And just went to my 6 week post op. My DC told me he did not want me to be a couch potatoe. Lift within reason.
I asked him about recurance. About 15% chance he said. He also said that there is other type of bladder surgery that has no recurace but since I had the hyst that he could not do that procedure at the same time.

Minni~~~I asked my dr. about recurance, also. Mine told me that almost nothing is 100% (there are always variables that they can't predict); but with all the mesh in me my chances of recurance are pretty slim. I was pretty happy about that! Just now my sling might be too tight; I have trouble peeing, and still sometimes can't empty my bladder. But that is better than leaking! He told me to wait 6 months and then we will see. Basically, a lot of trauma to my bladder, so things have to heal up! But at least life can go on lifting things within reason.
