Nausea

Did everyone experience nausea in the days after surgery? I am having a TAH/BSO on July 12th.

Nausea

I did, big time, for about 3 days after the surgery. There are anti-nausea drugs they can give you to lessen it.

Nausea

Hi ELF...

Your surgery is on my birthday! I'll wish for an uneventful surgery for you.

I didn't have any nausea post op. My doctor told me to be sure to tell the anesthesiologist that I had experienced nausea in the past, and he would put the anti-nausea meds right in the IV during the surgery. I had no problems at all, even with my morphine pump.

PLEASE be sure to mention this to the anesthesiologist before your surgery, even at the pre op meeting. It can make all the difference in the world.

Good luck on the 12th!!!

Karen

Nausea

I didn't have any problems with nausea. If you do, please let the nurses or doctor know and they can give you something for it. Hope things go well for you!

Nausea

I was very sick, my first day post op. Nausea and vomiting, OUCH!I'm sure it was from the PCA ( pain pump). The nausea meds did'nt help much, but it went away, shortly after I stopped the PCA. Let the anesth. know you want nausea meds before surgery, that may help....Sue

Nausea

My TAH was done with an epidural, and the only slight nausea I experienced was caused by the morphine I had after surgery. As soon as I started feeling the tiniest bit queezy, I asked the nurse for anti-nausea drugs. They worked a treat. Funny thing is, the antibiotics (amoxicillin) I got 5 days later for my bladder-infection did make me feel sick until I started taking them with my meals. Nobody told me that could do the trick! I had asked nurses in advance when to take them, they told me it didn't matter. I guess what I'm trying to say is that we're all different, and we all react differently to medication. Just make sure to tell the anest. , doc & nurses about your worries, I'm sure they'll do their best to make you as comfortable as possible.
Take care,

's

Nausea

Hi Elf,

I always have nausea after surgery. Make sure that you tell EVERYONE before surgery that you get sick with the anesthesia because there is a special one that they have that is supposed to eliminate this problem. I had my gall bladder out last year and they gave it to me then and it was the only surgery that I have ever had that I didn't get sick afterwards! For some reason, I had a different anesthesiologist this time and he felt that another drug would work better (well, it didn't). I should have known when the nurses were trying to get him to listen to me and he wouldn't. I was sick for two days straight post-op. But they gave me the shots for nausea and it shortly went away for awhile. I am now nine weeks post-op and have never felt better, so even the nausea was worth it!

Good luck this week!
