Newbie needing advice

Hi everyone! I am new to this site and it is awesome. I am so glad I stumbled across it. It has been such a great source of information.

I will be having a TAH on October 1st. Dh is taking off of work for 1 week to be home with me. After that I am hoping I will be ok enough to be by myself during the day. His work is going to let him come in late and leave early to get our kids to school for 2 weeks after the first week he is off. So, my question is from those of you that have had a tah, do you all think I would be ok by myself? I won't have any kids at home to take care of, just me. Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hi,
I'm scheduled for TAH on October 1, too. It's coming quickly.

Good luck on Monday.

And welcome to the site. Isn't it awesome?

From my experience , I had my TAH on the 24 of July . Hubby took off the first week the second he went back to work . I had to fend for myself . I just took everything sloooooowly . I would shower and do any thing else before I went down stairs for the day ... Just remember to move slow and purposfully when doing stuff , if you drop something that you dont need leave it lay till some one gets home. Have an upstairs/down stairs basket to place things in that you want to take , have someone carry those for you ...I was ok the week after but I moved sloooooowly and carefully and was fine , I only had the 5 pets and 1 salt water aquarium that I need to deal with , the fish tank went to the weighside and was mantained before surgery and did nothing with it till the 2 week point , then I directed whom ever how to do H20 changes and maintince on it .... I had a lift restriction of 15 lbs for 8 weeks and did NOTHING for 4 of those 8 then it was just little things like wiping down the counters and setting up coffee makers , and such NO bending, hubby fed the cats ,I did the bird cages sort of by setting out the liners , but not really cleaning them ..... I think that by week 2 you should be ok alone but do keep a phone /cell near by incase of emergency to call for help also program any phone #s that may be needed on speed dial such as your DRs office, hubby , and the local pizzaria for dinner

I had a tah/bso and had help for the first few days. After that I had my DH do all the errands and heavy stuff so that I could manage while he was at work. I did have friends on standby for "just in case".
Just remember to go slow abnd easy, get lots of rest. Listen to your body, if it hurts - don't do it

Best wishes.

Tipa92,
You are right about this place being awesome. It is one of the things that is getting me through the wait and the nerves. I am an Oct 1 lady too. (Hi Luv2knit! We're almost there!) so soon the wait will be over and we'll be chatting about 'how it was'. Best of everything to you--and all of us.
