HELP with Constipation

Hello ladies.
Had TAH / BSO on September 26th and came home yesterday, September 29th. So it's day 5 and I have not gone to the bathroom. Doctor recommended Milk of Magnesia which I took last night but it did nothing. I am usually reular - cup of cofffe in th morning and I'm good to go. Now it's been 5 days since my last BM and I'm afraid this is going to be a problem. It's Sunday, so no doctor to call. Will call tomorrow though.
In the meantime - HELP - any recommendations on getting things going. Don't want this to become a real problem. Have enough pain from the incision and everything already.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Please

HELP with Constipation

Hi, my doctor told me to use the Milk of Magnesia twice a day.. it didn't work at first, so I was drinking prune juice (not refrigerated) and also eating papaya fruit at morning... I worked !!!!!! I had my surgery on the 25th and I am doing pretty good with this matter..

HELP with Constipation

You can also try a stool softner called Senekot. But I'd first try prune juice and you can even warm it up

HELP with Constipation

I had a TAH on Monday the 24th. I was released on Wednesday but before I went home my Dr. ordered a suppository which worked a little. I then didn't go until yesterday. I tried everything: stool softener, prunes, pear juice, coffee, walking, bran cereal and muffins and magnesium. I found that walking really helped. One of my nurses told me that the prescription pain killers can really bind you up. The sooner you can get off of those the better your system should get. I'm just taking Advil now. I'd much rather deal with the pain of surgery than constipation.

I've never had to deal with constipation before, actually I was wired more the other way. Now, I have a feeling I'm going to have to be more conscious of what I eat all the time.

HELP with Constipation

I think just everyone here understands what you are going thru and all the suggestions are great. I finally had to give myself a fleet enema. It took me two days to screw up the nerve, but it worked. I thought I would hurt myself, etc. putting something there. Be sure and check with your doctor's office first. I laid on my bed, on a towell on my side, did the enema, and about fifteen minutes I fet it start to kick in, got up and walked to the bathroom and..relief. The stool softeners and milk m. really help too as you don't want to strain.

HELP with Constipation

1. Drink at least 70oz of water a day.
2. consume at least 18-25 grams of fiber a day.
3. Walk

That should do it. If you are still on pain killers that WILL aggravate the constipation. Try to come off them.

HELP with Constipation

You should be eating at least one yogurt a day, pick your favourite or get vanilla and mix your own fruit. Yogurt does help regulate your digestive system, plus the cultures are good for uti's. This from my Dr after my kidney infection.
The gentler movements were a great help on the kidneys too

HELP with Constipation

TRUST ME ON THIS ONE! What ever you do , DO NOT TAKE to much of anything!!!!!!!!!! I was trying everything under the sun and yesterday I ended up in the ER. For 3-4 weeks i was so constipated that I tried metamucil, juice, colace, dulcalax and nothing!!! So, i stopped everything a week ago Saturday and after that I DID NOT STOP, until yesterday... I was dehydrated and i had gotten rid of the GOOD bacteria too!!! so try lots of yogurt and try to go natural if POSSIBLE, flax seeds uuumm magnesium. But don't turn to all those other MEDS.... MOM is the best and I just learned they have pill forms now..... instead of drinking it! PLUS TONS AND TONS OF WATER. If you can't do just plain water and Gatorade to that, half and half for the taste. Please don't wind up like me. cause now I feel like real doo doo and i feel like I am back at 2 weeks recovery! good luck!
