Complex Cyst

Hi.
I had a TAH due to Placenta Percreta on June 28, 2006. I kept ovaries. I have been having a lot of incisional pain (most likely adhesions) and a lot of pain in my ovaries. Dr. ordered an u/s which showed I had a 5.47 cm complex cyst on my left ovary.
I just got this information yesterday. Like he said, he can't rule out cancer, but he doesn't know for sure. Can anyone give me any information? What should I be asking the Dr? What should our plan be to find out if it is cancer or not? The wait and see approach is tough, but is that all we should be doing? We are at a military hospital and sometimes I feel like their approach is very different than a civilian doctor.
Thanks for your help!

Complex Cyst

do you have endometriosis? if so complex cysts are very common. even if you dont, complex cysts can just be from adhesions around your ovaries. the normal cyst cant get out and so it starts to "bleed into itself" and you get a complex cyst.

I always have them of varying sizes. I live with the pain and discomfort because I had 8 surgeries last year after one surgeon burned my ureter when he took out one of my ovaries.

usually wait and watch is the best thing, but i can not tell you about the chances of this being cancerous.
good luck and keep us updated!

Complex Cyst

Hi Jessica, my dr told me the same thing. My dr thought mine was a complex cyst. Once he got in and was able to see, it was a hemorrghaic cyst on my right ovary and was sandwiched between my left ovary and vaginal cuff with adhesions. I have heard that sometimes they do CA-125 blood tests to check for cancer. What has your dr recommended? It's hard for our dr's to know for sure what is going on until they can actually look. I wish you the best. Keep us posted.
Lots of 's,
Carol

Complex Cyst

endometriosis will also raise the level of CSA-125 tests, so that wont be a sure way to tell.

Complex Cyst

Hi, I don't know if yours is cancerous(praying it's not) I had two complex cysts on both ovaries after my TAH. One of them was 6 cm. the other was 8cm. Mine was caused from endo. My dr. had to go back in and removed both ovaries. I hope everything works out for you. Take care of yourself

complex cyst

Hi Jessica,

I had a complex cyst on my left ovary prior to my hyst. What my doc did was run a CA-125 test. If it is from endo- such as mine was, sometimes called a "chocolate cyst" then your numbers will be slightly elevated. If it is from ovarian ca, then your number would be extemely high.
Mine was slightly elevated above normal, which gave me some relief. I don't know if your doc took your tubes along with your hyst. Mine did, as he said you have a increased chance of having cysts post hyst if you keep the tubes. If you want to keep the one ovary, ask if they could take the tube out. I'm not sure if there is any treatment, besides chemical menopause or surgery. I know those cysts can be recurringly painful.

Complex Cyst

I had TAH in January now I've got complex cysts on both ovaries. They are painful and surgery is scheduled for Monday to remove both ovaries.

My doctor mentioned that they may be dermoids or hemo???something. My CA 125 came back very low so it likely is NOT cancer.

Does anyone know if cysts can form in just 8 months? My cysts are 4.8 cm and 2.5 cm on left ovary and ??? on right.
