4 week post op still bleeding

Hello everyone, It will be 4 weeks tomorrow since my surgery. A week ago I started spotting. It was off and on. Monday of this week it started again and kept getting heavier. I went to the Dr. today and he said stitches were weeping and when it collects and feels like it's gushing out. He put silver nitrate on a few spots and sent me home and told me not to worry. I've passed more clots and bled more since I've been home than I have in the past 3 days. I also am on coumadin (levels ok) so I called my family Dr and she said it's not all that uncommon to bleed as the stitches disolve. Has anyone else had a similar problems? I told the GYN today that I had this surgery because of ***BAD WORD** like this. He assured me it will be fine.... Anyone have any thoughts?

4 week post op still bleeding

Hi Ellen,

I had a simular experience at 2 weeks. I had basically no bleeding and at 2 weeks and 1 day I started bleeding heavy with clots. Scared me to death. I thought I really did something really bad and tore my stiches. Anyway I called the doc. office and the nurse reassured me that things like this happens because of stitches disolving and the like, and if I wasn't soaking a pad an hour it would be okay. I really took it easy for the last week and it took 4 or 5 days to slow down and now it is just spotty again. I'm not on coumadin. That must of been scary for you. Take it easy and hopefully it will slow down for you too. If you feel like you are bleeding too much I think you should call them back. Lots of hugs to you. I hope it slows soon.

(((Ellen)))
I agree with the others that it is probably normal. If you find yourself filling a pad an hour or anything close, I think you should call your dr or just go in.
Does your dr know you are passing clots too? I know some women do that and are just fine. I would just caution that if you are passing a lot of clots and blood I think the dr should know that. I have just seen several who had a problem with their cuff when this happened.

Your dr has just examined you, so this is probably not a concern. If you are worried about what's happening, call and ask about it. They are there to answer questions like that. Keep us posted on your progress.

4 week post op still bleeding

I started bleeding at 11 days and was changing a pad 4 - 5 times per day. It was bright red and once in awhile a few clots. I went to my gyn at 2 weeks and he found an infection (not sure it was related to the bleeding.) I was on antibiotics for 1 week. At 4 weeks I was still bleeding and then at my 6 week checkup I had finally stopped. (I actually stopped bleeding two days before my 6 week.) I was released for sex, I bled then also, but it was just spotting and stopped by the next evening. I am going on 8 weeks and haven't bled since. I too was worried, but my gyn said that some women just bleed and it is normal. So don't panic unless you're changing a pad every hour. Hopefully you won't bleed as long as I did. If in doubt call your doctor. Hang in there it will eventually stop. I do know how you feel, I was really upset too because we had this surgery so we didn't have to worry about bleeding anymore. Oh, I haven't thrown my pantiliners away yet as I am afraid. Maybe in another week or two....................: )

Thanks for all the support. It was bad in the night but better this morning. I have put a call into my Dr. I'm sure they will be sick of me by the time this is all over. Part of it is probably that I have NEVER worn a pad. I hated them with a passion. So there fore all new ucky feeling!!! You gals are all wonderful. I'm off to make a few dishcloths on my knitting machine to take my mind off the other end!! LOL
