How long did you wait?

How long did you wait once your Dr. recommended a hysterectomy? Are you glad you did/didn't wait? Any complications if you waited?

How long did you wait?

After a DNC 3-4 years ago, Dr told me she wouldn't do another one. She hoped that that procedure would buy me some time so my body would go into menopause naturally, but that she thought I would eventually end up with a hysterectomy. She was right. In the meantime, my DH was transferred so I had to switch DRs, which meant waiting another year longer than necessary. The new Dr wanted to avoid evasive procedures so he wanted to give me some more time. Anemia forced my hand and the surgery had to be done.

As far as if I was glad I waited....well, I believe God's time is always the right time. Last fall when I began to have troubles, but DR wanted to wait, we were new to the town and DD was stressed with new school. DH stress with new job. A TAH would have been over the top. Now, they are settled and I had the support of more friends. God's time.

How long did you wait?

My bleeding was so heavy (uterine mass was soccer ball-sized) that the doctors wanted to operate asap. My gyne wanted to get a gyn oncologist involved and, fortunately, they found a mutually agreeable date that was only 2 and a half weeks after I was diagnosed.

I was glad because I hate to wait. I am not a "wait and see" type person.

Even with a few minor complications, nothing connected to the surgery was as bad as the heavy bleeding/almost constant periods before my TAH.

How long did you wait?

My GYN advised me 7 uears ago as I had heavy bleeding and lots of big clots due to Fibroids. Things slowed down so I opted not to=== last spring I began to bleed all the time just enough to have to wear something. After 3 months I decided that ,that was getting really old, went back to the GYN had all the same tests and the same advise. This time I made my surgery date before I left the office. I'm so glad it's done===I only wish I would have done it 7 years ago. ===When my path tests came back my GYN called to tell me that they also found Adenomyosis, and that this time around that was probably giving me the most problem. (Adneo is usually not detected easy as it is in the uterine tissue) ===This time I'm glad I didn't want to wait for menopause, I could wait forever,or I might not have made a difference anyway=== Now all that is gone and NO MORE PERIODS Brenda (52) Fibroids & Adneomyosis, Kept Both Ovaries

How long did you wait?

i bled way too heavy for 5 years before i ever told my dr. my anemia ended up getting so bad, he was going to send me to a hematologist. it was about 4 months before i had my hysterectomy. i had a hysteroscopy and d&c first and that only helped for one month. went for a second opinion and i liked my second opinion surgeon and his options much better...and waited 2 months for a surgery date. my hemoglobin stayed about the same in that time. once i decided to do it, i wished it could scheduled sooner but it just wasnt possible with his schedule.

How long did you wait?

I never had one after my GYN recommended it for my 10cm fibroid. I investigated other options and had a UFE instead. My fibroid was asymptomatic for about a year after it was discovered. Then I had about 3-4 horrible gushing periods and one bad bout of anemia and then I had the embolization. I couldn't live like that - in fear of those hideous periods.
