Dressing comfortably w/catheter

Anybody found anything that hides the catheter? I just got one(going to have it for atleast 3 weeks) and my pant legs are not loose enough and it feels uncomfortable in the crouch area too. I have one dress that is not straight skirt that Im wearing its old and stained. I expect to get called for job interview in next week or 2 and need something somewhat professional. Im also taking a geology class and we are going on a field trip next sat. so I dont think I can wear dress there.

I am sorry you are dealing with this major inconvenience. I only had my catheter in a week so other than going out and buying some loose pants, I don't know what to tell you. I hope these three weeks fly by for you so you don't have to deal with this anymore.

Maybe check == or have someone check for you the local goodwill for other skirts --

but depending on how they hooked it up -- you might be able to get some hopital scubs -- just buy them with a drawn string so you can tighten them up around your waist -- but then it will give you enough room for the catheter

good luck

Dressing comfortably w/catheter

I had three types of outfits when I had my Foley... first was an A-line tencel denim jumper with a t-shirt underneath. Next, a pair of very loose, flowing knit pants that I got at - off all places - WalMart. And then, a long, full knit skirt. All three concealed the leg bag very nicely.

Dressing comfortably w/catheter

Texas Lady...............I'm so sorry for your bladder problems. My bladder was accidentally cut during my hysterectomy. As a result I had to wear Foley Catheter for two weeks so that I would not develop a fistula. I had constant bladder spasms and was not comfortable to even leave the house. Hopefully you will fare better. I was given a leg bag but found that it was just too much trouble to deal with. Besides the fact that it looked too small to hold much urine. So I chose just to use my large bag. As to how I managed to dress comfortably, I just made a split in the outside seam of my pants, just about knee height. With the bag empty, I folded it and worked it through the hole. Then I just hung the bag onto my pants pocket while walking around the house. When sitting, I just lowered it so it would drain properly. This worked fine for around the house. I had to go to the doctors office twice this way. When I did, I just slipped the cath bag into a canvas bag and carried it like a purse. Only a small section of tubing was visible. When the cath was removed, I just re- stitched the seams. I worried that I would not have control but everything worked great. I hope you can find a way that is comfortable for you.

I only have the leg bag and the tube is really short, pretty much forced to sleep on my back(I usually sleep on side to stomach) gettin up twice at nite to empty it. Mostly concerned with finding something decent to wear to job interview that will hide the bag dont want them thinking I wont be an effective employee if they see it. Maybe just being parnoid there.

TexasLady...............If you are comfortable with just the leg bag, then I won't try to confuse you, but I believe that you would be much more comfortable with a big bag for night time use. You can get one from your local pharmacist or home health. Of course, you would want to get your doctors input on this. It is possible they just forgot to give you a big bag. My output was much more at night and a couple of nights I almost filled the bag. When the bag is full, pressure builds in the bladder. I found the hose also too short for comfortable sleeping as well. I was forced to sleep on my right side for the entire two weeks. Talk about pain and agony. I am not a back sleeper. Now that I am free of the catheter, I am having left side sciatica and am still having to sleep mostly on my right side. Sometimes, you just can't win for losing. I hope you are having a good day.
