Trying to adjust being off HRT

I have been on Combipatch for almost 4 years and decided to stop about 10 days ago. I am 38 and feel that the HRT has really not been a good thing for me. The first few days after I quit I felt a little dizzy and my stomach has been pretty upset. But I also feel more like myself that I have in years. I have more energy but am wondering how long it will take my body to adjust being off the hormones. My doctor warned me about the risk of osteoporosis and has scheduled me for a bone density scan. Anyone with any experience HELP!

Trying to adjust being off HRT

hi! I was on HRT for five months, then was advised to stop taking it as I was scheduled for a new surgery. I have been experiencing hot flashes/night sweats and some dizziness as well. I am 35. I begged to go back on it, but my doctor wouldn't let me My doctor put me on a low-dose blood pressure medicine, Clonidine, and I also take fish oil and black cohosh three times per day. Since I started these things, things "seem" to be cooling down, LOL. I was told that a woman has to go through this regardless of taking HRT, so just look at it like this, by the time all of our friends our age are suffering, we'll be sitting pretty!!! If you want to talk, let me know!!! Good luck to you!!!

Trying to adjust being off HRT

HI Wow thanks for replying so quick. So far I have been pretty lucky with the hot flashes and night sweats. The only thing that is really bothering me is the dizziness. My friends are telling me that I seem happier already. I feel almost "free" not having to deal with the patches. I hope I made the right decision. I considered bio identical hormones but my doctor told me they are still hormones and still have risks. So I decided to go cold turkey. I also take fish oil. Do you know of any other vitamins besides calcium that would protect us from osteoporosis. My mom has it pretty bad and I really want to protect myself. Thanks for your help.

Trying to adjust being off HRT

I've heard of Boniva, that once monthly pill. Sally Field is on the commercial. I get dizzy too, it's just the lack of hormones is all. Mymom had problems with that for a long time, too. It's scary. You are sooo lucky not to have trouble with hot flashes!!!! It's disgusting and I hate it!!! LOL

I thought that you could only take Boniva if you were diagnosed with osteo but I'm not sure. I just hope I can hang in there. I felt so anxious ALL the time on HRT. I also gained a lot of weight. Now I feel like I have lost so much water weight already and my carb cravings are gone. YAY.

I'm not sure about the Boniva thing. Check with your doctor. I'm sorry this is happening to you. I had a really hard time going off from HRT too. I wish I'd never even started it in the first place, you know?? Well, write again if you would like!!! I hope you start feeling better soon!!! Keep your head up!!!!

Trying to adjust being off HRT

Hi,

I would wait until you get your tests from your doctor on your bone density test . My doctor has recommended that I take Fosomax once a week because I am moderate osteopenia. I think some doctors think it may help if it is started before osteoporosis, so it depends on your health history and how fast you are losing bone.

I have taken hrt for almost 5 years and I still had bone loss, so we are all different. I am on the lowest patch there is now. I have been slowly weaning lower over the years.

Trying to adjust being off HRT

I stopped taking HRT after being on it for 7 years. I've noticed nothing different other then the occasional "warm" flashes. I've been off HRT for 1 month.

Trying to adjust being off HRT

Hi, I am doing SO much better. I think this was the best decision I ever made and wish I would've done it sooner. Any medical professional I tell that I stopped the HRT is behind my decision due to the risks. I feel more myself now than in years. My husband says that I am a much happier person now. I am a bit hyper at times which is fine with me since I can get much more done now. Thanks for asking. I think the only bad thing I have noticed is vaginal dryness but that's it. Oh and also I am losing weight without any effort. Yay.
