Sharp Shooting Pain Anyone

I have been getting more and more pains now, seems like even more now that I'm scheduled for surgery. But there is one pain that really stops me in my tracks. It's a sharp shooting pain that feels like someone just jammed a knife up inside. Sorry for any visual there. Anyone else get that pain? Do you think its from fibroids or ovarian cysts? I have both, but my doc doesn't plan on taking my ovaries (I'm too young he says). I don't want to keep having this pain after I heal from surgery.

This just sucks! Sorry, but it does. It hurts so bad.

Did you just finish your period? I used to get them for a few days after my period ended. Not every month. I almost think they were gas pains but not the usual ones. More like contractions when you are going to deliver a baby! It could also be just nerves. I would ask my dr. to be sure. I kept my ovaries. If they're healthy I would definitely want to keep them. They provide many benefits (hormonal and well being). I'm 43 and dr. said I was too young and healthy to remove them.

Same here!!!

I've had the same pains! In fact, those are the same pains that drove me to the ER a couple of weeks ago (for two days in a row, and hence led me to getting the plans in motion for this upcoming hysterecomy). Also, I'm still having these pains. I'd love to know if these are pains that are really coming from the fibroids/ovaries, or if it really is something else.

HUGS to you.

I've been getting them for the past year, just more noticeable now. It's not through the abdomen, it feels as if it was a knife instead of a tampon (which I can never use because I bleed way too much). I'm so irregular so its hard to say if its because of my period. I'm just glad at least part of it is going!

Craftybear: Thank you, I don't feel so alone not knowing what is causing this.

I have a very large fast growing fibroid that has caused me considerable pain over the past two months. Mostly, the pain is a deep cramping feeling, but occasionally I will feel the sharp pain on my right side. When I press down slightly below my navel to the right, it is very tender and has been since this started. The doctor says he doesn't know why, my ovary on that side looks fine? When those sudden pains come, it can take my breath away, I'd love to know what it is.

Nichelmszt:

Do you mind me asking how old you are? Because I have cysts on both ovaries and one ovary is 3x larger than the other and I know he mentioned to me that it was all coming out, but then I got the paperwork from the Dr.s office explaining all my dates and stuff and it says that I am having a LAVH...laproscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy....and from what I read on here, that doesnt' include removing the ovaries...I will find out more in the preop appt on Monday....but I am 37 and I wonder if that age makes a difference...but if they are "diseased" why wouldnt they take them, unless the paperwork isnt right....Plus he said he wouldn't know for sure until he got in there if it would be vaginal or abdominal.....I am so confused....

I have had those pains for years. Not exactly sure what causes them. Sometimes they come on suddenly and without warning. It has actually put me on my knees a few times. It usually gets worse when I am lying down. Sorry I can't offer any possible answers. Maybe if this is new or worse than usual a call to your doc is in order. Let us know if you find out what it is. I would certainly be interested to find out.

Two months leading up to surgery I would have pain shooting down my leg, since the surgery pain is all gone,
I had one ovarie almost as large as my uterus, must of been pushing on a nerve.

loareed, don't be afraid to call your Doctor's office and ask all those questions, they are the best ones to answer them for you.

good luck to you all, you will all feel so much better after the surgery is done and you are on the road to recovery

Loareed,

I'm 31, and my dr told me the same thing. He's not sure why the pain like that. He figures its hitting a nerve or something, but I sure would like to know. He said the same thing, we will plan on doing an LAVH but if he gets in there and its larger or whatever he will do an abdominal. He doesn't want to take my ovaries and I have a cyst on my left that is the same size as the ovary itself. He says its functional so I need it. But when it ruptures to release an egg OMG!!

Also, I have ovarian cancer and uterine cancer in my family so I don't want to have to have my ovaries removed 5 yrs from now. I'm hoping he will at least take out the one. I'm telling him at my preop that if it looks at all suspiscious take it out.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one.
