pre op is done 12 hours to surgery!

hi everyone, it's almost time!!!!! less than 12 hours to go!. the weeks before just seemed to drag by, waiting is the worst part.
but now it's only hours away and the butterflies are swarming in my stomach!!!!
I have so many things I should be doing. at this point I really don't care,I just want to sit & relax. nobody will care if I don't vaccuum, did get all the wash done tho.
I did talk to the dr. about my incision (tah & bso). He wrote in my pre op orders to leave my stiches, staples or what ever they use in when I go home. when I had the twins my incision opened up in 2 spots, scared the crap out of me!
seeing as how I have PLENTY of belly fat, he thought it was a good idea.
I also told dr. & hospital about being so sick after my last surgery, threw up all night & scared poor dh half to death.I knew this was common but he didn't. so hopefully the anti nausia meds will help. never had this problem with 3 c-sections.
everyone I have talked to is soo nice I,m glad I have this place to vent my fears & just get it off my chest.
As I talk with friends & other women that have had a hysterectomy, they all say the same thing, best thing I ever did. I was suprised at just how many women I know, that have had it done!

God bless all of you ladies out there, good luck to all those waiting, that's the hardest part. See you in post op!
take care
Terry

Hi Terry,

Yes the anticipation is the worst of it! I was in your shoes one week ago today (Oct 10) and I am already on my way to feeling better. So my advice is just try to visualize yourself already past it, that may help.

I am also a barfer and that was my #1 concern. Make sure you get some time with the anesthesiologist (sp?) before your surgery to let them know. I did, and afterwards did not throw up once. They gave me a combination of anti nausea drugs, including this awesome new one that is used for chemo patients (zoltar/zoltan? I can't remember but it sounds kinda like that).

The nurses were surprised by how fast I came around. As soon as I was off the iv on day 3 I was off down to the lounge to get a proper cup of tea, LOL.

So good luck, breathe and it will all be over before you know it.

Hi Terry, Hope all went well with your surgery. I'm now in the same position you was in before your surgery. I'm scheduled for a TAH/BSO on the 23rd (6 days) and a total nurvous reck. I'm scared because I had breast surgery 15 years ago with node removal on both sides; therefore, the IV for my surgery on the 23rd will probably be in the neck (yuk). I'm also afraid of getting sick afterwards (I was with my breast surgery). All this, and terrified that I probably have endometrial cancer. Oh well, I guess I'll take one step at a time.

If and when your up to it, let me know how your surgery went. I hope you didn't get sick!

Hi retired: I have a question how come your IV went into your neck? Mine was in my hand. Good luck to you on your upcoming surgery.

The reason my IV may need to be in my neck is because I had the nodes removed from both my arms due to my breast cancer. This puts me at high risk for lymphedema. Normally the IV is done in the hand. How did you do with your surgery?
