Help! Just Quit Hrt
Any help would be appreciated, I had a total hyster a couple of years ago for endo and adno severe, the doctor put me on estradial and I have been on consistantly, about a month ago I decided from info I had read that I should get off, first the headaches were terrible, they have subsided, the sleeplessness Im able to deal with, the hot flashes are very consistant all day and night. My questions are Should I have gotten off (doctor is no help at all) will the symptoms decrease, will I now suffer more weight gain than on hrt or less? Should I stick it out since Ive come this far? My moods do not seem to be suffering at all? Im really confused as to wether I did the right thing, and wether the hot flashes/ sleeping problems will dissapate? Thanks for any help

Help! Just Quit Hrt
snow lady,
There's probably no good answer since everyone is different.
My personal opinion: if you've come this far, give at least two-three months before you give up. I've found that St Johns Wort taken about two hours before bed helps with the sweats and the sleeping issues. You may find it helps you too.

Help! Just Quit Hrt
I have noticed when I have gotten off or lowered hrt that I lose weight not gain it. I find it bloats me mostly. I am on lowest dose now, which is almost like being off because I am getting some hot flashes from it. I am weaning down to eventually off.
I had my hyst in '03 and have been on hrt, but have either tried to get off or weaned to lower dose and I have found it is getting easier with time.
If you are already off then I would just try to do all I can do naturally to be comfortable. If you are miserable and can't handle it then your doctor can perscribe medications to help.
Here is a link from the Mayo Clinic on dealing with hot flashes:

Yes some of the herbs like Valerian root, Melatonin, and St. John's Wort may help you get some sleep. I would only take one at a time though and be sure that they can be taken with any other meds you are taking. You can do a Google on any of these supplements to learn about them.
If hot flashes are keeping you up, you might look at getting the Chillow, as a lot of women say it works and keeps them cool.
Hang in there

snowlady, I've also found that watching carb intake seems to help with the sweating.
