Have Fibroid, on hormone, seeing surgeon in Nov
Hello all,

I'm new to the site. I'm 43, have known I'm unable to have children for 10 years (unexplained infertility). I now have a fibroid about the size of a plum, HEAVY periods, migrains, enimea....and so on. I have been on Prometrium for about 4 months, helping the headaches a bit, improved the bleeding only slightly, on iron supplements but seems to be a battle to keep the levels high enough.

I have a consult appt. with a surgeon on Nov. 15th to talk about options. She is highly recommended, by my NP as well as other people I have talked with.

I'm hoping for some advice on what questions to ask when I go to see the surgeon. I'd appreciate any input.

Thanks so much.

Thanks so much. I have looked around and I have a list of questions. I also met a new friend last evening who just had surgery, she was very cool and told me a lot about her experience. I feel a bit better about the whole thing.

Thanks again,

Hi Cyberpixie,

I had a LSH for two large fibroids and I am still very pleased with my hyst results.

With the size of your fibroid...you might ask your Dr. if you are a candidate for a UFE (Uterine Fibroid Embolization). It is a procedure that helps to decrease the size of fibroids and it leaves the uterus intact.

Also...possibly you are a candidate for a less invasive hyst such as a LAVH, a TVH or a LSH, the surgery type I had. Go to the *Hysterectomy Checkpoints* link at the top of the web site..click on that...then go to the *pre-op* area and scroll down. It goes over the different types of hysts and questions...and it might help you with your research.

In the end...do what is *best* for you. That is what is most important.

Talked to the Dr.

Hi Mary, Thanks for the suggestions. I talked to the Dr. about the different options; it doesn't look like the embolizaiton is going to work for my issues. However, it looks like a Laparoscopic hysterectomy is what’s needed. I will be able to keep my ovaries and cervix. That is if the biopsy comes back clear. Biopsy is scheduled for Dec. 3rd, I’ll know more about the surgery prospects after that. I’m on my way to check out the pre-op pages. Thanks again to all of you for being here. I’m hopeful.
