desperate
hi, i'm new here and i need some advice
i almost had to have an emergenct hysterectomy about 6 months ago but the dr managed to just give me a dnc and remove some fibroids an cysts.
i've always had trouble with my periods and bleed like someone is being murdered. they have never been normal my entire life. here recently i have been having a lot of pain with them and miss a lot of work because everytime i move i gush right through my clothes
i am 30 yrs old and my husband and i don't have any children. we both love kids and would like to have one. due to a fight in my husbands past he ruptured one of his testicals and now has a really low sperm count so we have a lot against us and both fear we will never be able to have kids.
my bleeding has drastically gotten worse again just like it did when i had my last dnc and i am really considering letting the dr give me a hysterectomy but my husband don't want me to because he wants to hold on to the chance of someday having kids. i understand that but i'm at my wits end!
i know nothing about having a hysterectomy, what will happen to my body, or anything about it. any info, opinions, advice, etc... will be greatly appreciated thanks

Desperate (children mentioned)
I have not had my hysterectomy as of yet so I can't really answer those questions. I do understand your position. My husband always wanted to have a house full of kids, we have been married 15 years and had our first child after 10 years of infertility problems and after two ivf cycles. My husband wants more kids but I am 43 and he is 47 and I have been having painful ovarian cysts for over 2 years now and I am tired. I am having this hysterectomy period. Although it isn't really that easy cause I am terrified of what I will experience after it is all over as far has hormones and such. I realize that since I have had a child it isn't the same as for me as it is for you. Let me ask you this, have you guys actively tried to have kids and have had no luck because of his low sperm count? My husband has a really low sperm count, like 2 million and that is one of the reasons we did IVF with ICSI. At the time we had insurance that actually covered this procedure and have never been so lucky again so we have never been able to try for that house full of kids that Tim wants. Have you discussed all your options with a reproductive specialists? I would think your choices are to go to a specialist and see what your options are to have a baby and if they are realistic options or you could have your uterus removed (or have the endometrial ablation) and keep your ovaries then you could get a gestational carrier to carry embryo's that are from your eggs and your husband sperm or if for some reason your ovaries have to go there are two options, you could go through an ivf cycle minus the transfer and have your embryo's frozen for a gestational carrier or you could have your ovarian tissue frozen. I know some of these procedures are costly but there are insurance companies that will pay and there are states that make all insurance companies pay (my state is not one- Texas) so there are some options, you'll just need to do your homework and figure out what will work best for you. Good luck to you.

HI, teacherbrenda
your cycles sound just like mine use to be before my full hysterectomy.
i would miss work and hurt so bad that thats all i could think about and had no time for my family. i was blessed with one daughter and i thank god for that precious angel, i myself would liked to have more because i came from a big family, so my decison was thought out long and hard before i made it. you have to put yourself first, you go through that pain every month and its really hard for someone that has not been through that pain to realize how it is. i love my husband and he also wanted more children but it was not meant to be for me.
i hope everything works out for you and your family,if your not a 100% positive that thats not for you right now take your time and rethink your positives and negatives
god bless

i'm sorry, i'm not familiar with all those abbreviations, i don't know what they are, but Billy's sperm count is also only 2 million. he had surgery last year but it didn't work. my uterous is also tilted which doesn't help. we were going to go to a fertility specialist but my insurance won't cover it and we just can't afford it.
