Compounded Testosterone help please

Hi Ladies!
Well, I called a pharmacy that was on the website that finds compounding pharmacists and this pharmacist was insisting on a $230 saliva test and a 6 page questionaire. He does not believe in the blood test results. Weird guy.
I stopped in today to a pharmacy nearby and it turns out they compound medication but have never done testosterone but are willing to do it. I would prefer a cream over a gel. I would like to tell them what kind of base I want but I am not sure what to ask for. My doctor is not familiar with compounded testosterone so I am going to have to tell him what to prescribe me. Do I just ask for a cream in general or is there a particular kind that needs to be used? Also, I noticed that you ladies are on 1% or 2% creams, however when I spoke to the first pharmacist they said that they do it by 2 grams per 1/2 tsp or a pea sized amount or whatever I want. Has anyone heard of this? I am wondering which way is better to ask for. Thanks for any help you can give and if I am not clear with any of this please let me know and I'll try to clarify what I am talking about.

I would suggest that you find a pharmacy that is more familiar with compounded testosterone. I wouldn't use a pharmacy that says "we don't normally do this". A knowledgeable pharmacist should be able to help guide you, not make you do the leg work. This site has a pharmacy locator www.iacprx.org

I would also suggest that you have your testosterone and free testosterone levels tested before supplementing with this hormone. If you are not low in that hormone, the symptoms of too much are not pleasant and are sometimes irreversible.

Thanks Kim. I've had my bloodwork done. I have zero testosterone in my body. I've tried the Androgel but don't like it. The pharmacy website you suggested I did look into but there isn't one near me except the one wanting $230 cash to start. The pharmacy near me is very experienced in compounding meds, they just haven't had this request before. Yeah, I'd be happier if they did but I don't mind working with them. They have told me it may take a few days to get the supplies in to make it. That's why I'm wondering what options I have to ask for so they can order in what I would like. I have read that you can get different bases but can't find anything specific.

I love mine... the base is called Vanicream (short for 'vanishing cream', which is a good description of it). I also tried a water-based gel and didn't like it because it left a flaky residue on my skin. And once they gave me an alcohol-based gel which absorbed very quickly and easily but burned if I applied it to the labia, which I like to do.

My compounding pharmacy does mail order and doesn't have any minimum charges to get started. They just take the prescription your DR writes and fill it, period. They expect your DR is taking care of the testing (as he/she should be, imho -- pharmacies that want to control the process by ordering your tests and determining your prescription make me uncomfortable). I'm sure they're not unique... I bet you could find one who'd do that for you, and they don't have to be local if they're mailing it to you.

s,
-Linda

Thanks Linda. I'm going to look into that vanishing cream right now to see if it is available in Canada.

My compounded testosterone cream is 2%(20mg/ML) cream. I use a little bigger than a pea size amount.

HTH!
