cellulitis in IV hand

Has anyone else gotten cellulitis where their IV was. My hand is now double in size with red streaks going everywhere down my arm. It happened so fast. I am on antibotics and went again to emergency room tonight as per doctors orders. He wanted them to check it out due to swelling too. They tell me to just keep waiting it can take a while for it to clear up. Just wondered if anyone else has had this. Just wondering what to expect.

thank you so much,
debbi

Did they give you any instructions...

as in how to care for your hand? I was told with this problem to put a hot pack on the site and this will help draw the swelling out. Antibiotics and hot packs helped mine heal. It does take time.

Hope you get better soon.

cellulitis in IV hand

Debbi, I got what they call flabitis[ can't spell] in my right arm,it swelled three times normal size and hurt awful. I couldn't use it for 2 weeks and still can't use my thumb.I rotated heat and ice Dr's advise and slowly got better. It takes a while.Try not to use it and lifting makes it worse! hope you feel better soon!!!

My arm and hand are getting better, still sore and swollen but its not red anymore. My doctor sent me to the emergency room because of swelling and they told me to just keep it elevated and keep taking the antibotics. It seems to be working. I am also putting it in warm water for 20 minutes at a time and it seems to be helping too. Its just kinda scarey getting any infection from the hosptial, you just never know what you may get. Once again thank you all so much.
